DVD going crazy

On my dual tv the DVD goes crazy. When I turn the DVD player on it does nothing. Just sits there and then the whole tv turns off after about fifteen seconds. Any suggestions?

First a few informationsl points, then a question or two.

1) Upon startup, the unit will attempt to get to a "known state". This usually uinvolves miving the optics to a home position close to the center of the disc.
2) The optics will attempt to determine whether or not a disc is in the unit.

Questions:
1) Do you hear any activity inside the set at all?
2) Is there a standby light that blinks at all or just shuts off?
3) You should hear the high voltage kick in for the TV portion as well. Do you hear this?

We are trying to determine where in the startup process, the set is stopping. That will help to figure out which circuit is failing and causing the set to shutdown.

Please update this and we'll attempt to resolve this. Also, please supply the make and model as that will alow me to give you specifics.

Thanks,
Dan

Not sure what the problem is..could be a problem with the relay or powerboard. Best bet is to get a repairman take a look at it. Dont try to open it yourself, as there are high voltages inside (even when powered off) that can kill...

unplug the unit for about 20 minutes. This should allow the unit to go back to it's factory default settings.
Switch the TV to the HDMI input. Turn the TV off - hook the unit up with only the HDMI and turn on the TV.
If all goes well, the TV should signal the DVD player to turn on.
If not, wait about 10 minutes then manually turn on the DVD from the front panel (not the remote)
This will usually fix you right up.

Make sure nothing is blocking the front of your DVD player. You need a clear line of sight between the lower right corner of the DVD player where the sensor is and your remote. If your DVD player is sitting high on a shelf or lower than you are when you are sitting in front of the TV, it may be at a bad angle to "see" the remote.

This will sound crazy, but it often works: While standing up, point your remote at the wall opposite your DVD player at about the same height, and see if it works! This is a sure sign that the angle between where you are using your remote and your DVD player needs to be adjusted.

FYI- this often works because bouncing the remote beam off of an opposite wall spreads it more than pointing toward it, and is a good way to test your remote.

is it possible that you just need to adjust the TV to the proper channel? some DVD players default to ch3 others to ch4and if your using the av jacks make sure you haven't actually either plugged them into the input jack on the DVD player or with the new flat panel TV's you probably have a large number of input choices it is possible that you may have misplaced the inputs to ones that are close but are really meant for something else...

Can't get rid of subtitles

Often the subtitles are a function of the TV. Check the menus on the TV and turn them off there. Sometimes merely muting and un-muting the TV is all it takes. Other times, you have to go into the settings.

Disc is not being read, not spinning

I had this same problem with my Apex AD-500W DVD Player. I decided since everyone said the player basically needed to be replaced it wouldn't hurt to go through the buttons on the remote just to try and figure it out......I DID!!!! I turned on my DVD Player, inserted a disc, turned on my tv and then hit the SYSTEM Button right below the power button until the screen said MULTI and the machine started working perfectly. There are 3 settings in that button, PAL which made my screen go crazy, NTSC ( i have no clue) and MULTI(this one made it work)! Hope it also works for all of you!!!

DVD player was working. Now, when any DVD is placed in, it just reads "loading" and nothing happens. Is the DVD player dead or is there hope?
