DVD will not play. DVD unknown disc please check again

Could just be a dirty lens.
Try cleaning the lens with a good quality micr-fiber cloth found in eye-glass cleaning kits. May need to wet the tip of the cloth with rubbing alcohol .

Initially, pls try:
  • as others have posted, cleans the lens;
  • you could also try cleaning the inside particularly the guide rail/slider bar (encircled in dotted yellow) as shown in below image.
This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Post/comment back any updates/development. Appreciate your use of Fixya and good luck.

Good Day!

Your DVD player does not read the CD.
You have to do first is to try other CD with no scratches or new. When the problem is still there, try to clean the lens of the player using a lens cleaner or if you have a basic electronics background or knowledge try to open the cover and look for the lens and clean it using cotton buds only without any chemicals. Then try to load CD again,if the problem is still there. The problem could be the DVD lens,if that is the problem I suggest to give it to the qualified technician or service center because replacing of lens is very difficult and it have proper alignment to work.

I hope this solution will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

I bought 2 pvs1262 dvd players last night at an auction. Today I tried a dvd and both say loading and goes no farther. Any suggestions?

Try running a DVD/CD lens cleaning disc through the players. Sometimes the lens gathers a lot of dust and needs to be cleaned. The lens cleaning disc can be found anywhere from $1.00 to $10.00 depending on where you buy it. Good Luck

Can not play disc

You can try a lens cleaning kit. If it is the kind that comes as a disc all it will do is lightly brush the lens which may not remove all the debris. If you disassemble the player you can easily get to the laser lens. It will usually be fairly accessible once you remove the DVD case. Sometimes it may be located within another box that needs to be disassembled before you can gain access to the laser. The laser unit will be located on a rail system and will have a small clear lens about the diameter of the eraser on a pencil. You can gently clean it with a cotton swab and lens cleaner or rubbing alcohol works just as well. Try that first before buying the lens cleaning kit or replacing the player.

OUr DVD player has is unable to read the inserted disc

Try cleaning the laser lens. There are specialized cleaning discs available for this purpose. If the debris is too much for the cleaning disc, the lens may be cleaned with a photographic quality lens cleaning solution and proper photographic quality brush. The lens assembly is quite fragile, so use only enough solution to slightly wet the brush and be very, very gentle when performing this operation.

My Toshiba SD-2715 dvd player periodically stops playing and turns off. This usually occurs after 1 hour of play. This has happened with multiple disks, and I have tried cleaning them with no improvement....

Try cleaning the lens, also the inside of the player in and around the disk tray is probably full of dirt, dust etc, carefully try cleanig all that out, you may need to disassemble a bit to get at everything

Unit plays DVD but no longer Blu Rays

That is because of a dirty or defective lens. When lens is dirty, the unit may still operate on regular CDs and DVDs and not be reading BD.

Try first using a lens cleaner for Blue Ray: Maxell 190054 Blu-Ray Lens Cleaner

If that does not work, the unit may be disassembled, and lense cleaned with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:

Clean DVD lens, or replace player?

Clean CD or DVD ROM lens with a brush?

Being this a blue ray unit , I would suggest calling support instead of disassembling the unit by yourself.

Bad Disc

Try using a lens cleaner and see if that resolves the issue. Also see if this error occurs with all discs or just a particular one. If it happens with all discs, then it is a lens problem. If it happens with just a few, then its likely that the disc itself is scratched or defective.
If the lens cleaner does not resolve the issue, then you will have to open the cover. Try using a can of compressed air to clean out the insides. Also, clean the lens itself with some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. If the lens is scratched or dirty, you may have to replace it, in which case, it would be cheaper to simply buy a new player.
