Question about Technics SL-1200MK2 Turntable
At first, the turntable would begin normal and then go into warp mode by playing back in reverse and forward. I went to power it on today and no luck. No lights, seemed as if the tt was dead. It is set at 110v and it began to this recently.
Wondering if there are any DIY solutions or troubleshooting I am missing and if it the tt would be worth getting fixed, or would it just be better to buy a new one. I'm in Tucson, AZ, do you guys know of anyone in AZ that knows their 1200's and if it is the tt is dead, how much do think it costs to bring it back to life?
frustrated in the desert,
The only thing that would cause a power failure would be a faulty transformer. However, since you had issues before it went dead, it was those issues which probably put a strain on the power and eventually fried it. So, you will first have to have the power transformer replaced, then have it troubleshooted to find out what is causing the warp mode.
It shouldn't cost too much to get it fixed. For something like this, we would charge about $150-180, which would cover everything. New Technics go for $400, and used ones go for about $300 - so it's up to you.
Nothing in AZ unfortunately. But if you call any DJ rental company, they might be able to refer you to someone locally.
