I will say that the DC motor that transport the laser Assembly to read the info from the CD is defective or it could also be the plastic gears.
The only way to fix it, is to replace the whole assembly where the motor is mounted. You might be able to find this assembly without the laser assembly.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Most likely the lens mechanism / lens is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Have you tried cleaning the lens with some isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip? Sometimes the disc cleaners don't work and this does. You will need to open it up and try this. Also, this I presume happens on multiple cds, correct? Please let me know on this, you could also try cleaning the disc on the bottom with a soft cloth. Perhaps the player is dusty. Please try the above suggestion and let me know how it goes, thanks.

Hi,

Few troubleshooting steps you can try:

First try a hard reset by unpluging all the cords from the back for 30min and then plug it back in.IF this doesn't help then do the following:

Load a disc and listen.Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable. You can also restoe the settings to factory defaults by inserting a toothpick or a small paper click in thehole in the front..

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track.

If the problem does not get solved then you have to get it repaired.
Goodluck..

If you can disassemble the CAP(disc holder) and place it on the disc while it is on the spindle and at the same time push the (hidden)lid switch you will see the lazer"s lens move up and down while trying to focus on the disc. If the lazer see's the disk it will tell the motor to turn. If it dosn't see the disc it will not turn the motor. Some model will kick the disc to spin a little while trying to see the disc. This type of player can be tricked into seeing the disc if you spin the disc a little by hand when the lazer's lens is moving up and down. At that point in time it might see the disc and take over the motor and spin up to normal speed. If the disc is an illeagal copy sold as a original the quality of the disc could be the cause. If the player is very clean (no small hairs stuck to the glue that holds the lens in place) (never clean with a cotton swab, use a shammie swab with rubbing alcohol or isopropal 99%) the problem could also be that the lazer is just not strong enough and the whole lazer-motor assemble should be replaced. Older units could use 1 drop of light motor oil on the motor shaft at the bearing to help start the motor when the system kicks the disc to spin. If the player reads the disc at the time you manually spin the disc maybe a good cleaning and oiling is all that is needed. The disc spins clockwise. if the disk spins counter clockwise replace the whole assemble. Maybe simpler, just give the disc a good clockwise spin and quickly close the door and push play while the disc is still spinning. if it starts, there you go. Don't use caned air on the lazer assemble. it will blow the dirt further into the lazer mechanism under the lens and make matters worse! Good luck!!

Since the motor tries to start up, I don't think it's a motor problem. I think that the problem is at the lens; it can't read the cd so it does to stand by mode. I suggest you a cheap solution. Buy a cd/dvd cleaner set, a wet one is better. Follow the instructions on the set. The main idea is to put one drip of the included liquid at the set (usually isopropyl
alchohol) at a specific place (like small brush) on the disk surface and play this disk. That way the "brush" will clean up the laser lens and after that the cd/dvd player will be able to read the disks. BE CAREFULL not to put too much liquid on the "brush". In case you can, use a Q-tip with isopropylic alchool to clean up the cd lens manually.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

Cd player does not work

Try cleaning the lens using a CD Cleaner you can buy from alot of shops.
If it fails use it a few times then if it still wont play , or the disk failed to spin all together then you probably have a faulty spindle motor.

Car CD player ER message, then reject ???

when you get an err message it means that the eye of the cd cannot read the disk. when was the last time you put in a cd cleaner? one that you put into any cd player. you can get one at your local big lots or radio shack or best buy. you need not spend a lot of money for one. or you can try to use a cuetip dipped in alcohol and clean the eye only. dry with another cuetip or soft cloth and see if that solves the problem.

CD player intermittently will not read track when I skip to another track

This might not be a problem with your CD player but with your CD. To check this, if it's easy for you, make a copy of your CD and try it. If the problem is fixed then it was a problem with your CD. If it's not fixed then the problem is with your CD player. Maybe the CD lens needs to be changed or be calibrated by a service technician.
