Question about Samsung HCM4215W 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Samsung HCM4215 No Power

I was reading your advice about a individual who was experiencing power problems with his Samsung HCM4215 television. (http://www.fixya.com/support/t160679-tv_turn)

I'm having the same problem too. The picture on the television was fantastic now convergence problems and the set has been rarely used. All of a sudden I started to get a loud popping sound when I turned on the television. The television functioned fine, but only on the initial start-up would I hear the popping sound. After about a couple of months of the popping sound, the television stopped turning on. No power.

I followed your instructions. I first unplugged the connectors on the convergence board to see if the set would turn on. No luck. So now I'm down to either replacing both the power/deflection board and STR type regulator IC or just one of the two. My question is: do I need to change both? I know what the power/deflection board is (AA94-08574A), but I don't know what the STR type regulator IC (AA13-00105A) is.

Can you please help me? I don't know what to do next.

Thanks,
Gonzagarules

My TV won't power on. Green light comes on, then off/ Error code 21

error code 2 1 is from the x ray protect or high voltage circuit. there are many individual components that can fail and cause that shutdown.
to repair you would need to be experienced at troubleshooting electronics and would probably also need a schematic diagram. or have a shop repair for you.

How old is the surge protector you used? Because they only last for so long and can absorb so many surges. I hate to say it but it sounds like your TV sustained a power surge.

Hi kantraman,
The main reasons of your problem is the bulb which is already came to its end. The unit will automatically shuts off when it sense a bulb failure. But before you replace the bulb I would advice you to work first on itspower supply. Look for open fuse/fusible resistor and spot some bad solder joints. This will do the same symptoms like what it showing now. If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

The lamp is usually located at the side of the tv.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya

First I need to clarify your tv. Your tv is not a DLP. It is a standard 3 CRT rear projection. So there is no Lamp/bulb to replace like you would find in a DLP.

As for your problem. I would suspect a convergence failure. I believe on this set, there is a small board in the back of the tv above all other boards with two STK chips on it. Access if from the back of the tv. You should be able to unplug this board and see if the tv comes on. If it comes on, the picture will be distorted and colors separated. if this happens, then you know you have a convergence failure.

If this is the case, you can either:
a) have a repair shop fix it

or
b) buy a new or used(most likely) board and replace it yourself and then re-align the tv.

or

c) Replace the STK chips on the board, any faulty resistors in the area and possibly a fuse or two.

You will need the service manual to help you with how to do the re-alignment once the chips are replaced.

You have either a bad convergence IC on the power supply/convergence board or the whole board is bad and needs to be replaced along with doing a Full Convergence Alignment by a very experienced tech.

I believe I read somewhere that when you open the back cover over the lamp, there is a special little black switch that needs to be in the up position when you put the cover back on, or the TV can shut itself off randomly.

Hi, After a recent severe lightenung storm my Samsung DVD player is not working. When turned on it read CD/DVD Protection and shuts off. Will not open/close or stay on. Tina

Hello.. Since the problem ocurred after a lightning storm then there is a good chance that your dvd player experienced a power surge from the power line and may be seriously damaged. Try unplugging the unit fromn the wall plug and let it staythat way for 10-20 minutes then plug it in again.. if it continues to malfunction then it is probably junk.. The power down/power up reset sometimes clears malfunctions like this but not always... and especially not if a component inside it is damaged.. Good Luck..

Your problem could be a bad focus pack, a bad convergence board or a problem in the power supply board. If you know how to read a schematic diagram, I suggest that, that is the first thing you should invest in. If you do not understand how to service solid state circuit boards, read a schematic, or use a multimeter, my best advice to you would be to call in a servicer for Samsung, as there is a lot of high voltage inside these puppies even when you unplug them. This is not a place to be experiementing around inside of. Good Luck with this repair.
