Question about Olivetti MS25 Typewriter

New typewriter Hi - right out of the box, brand new, won't return past midpoint on the carriage. I've changed margin settings, etc., and all little packing protector pieces appear to be removed. Any ideas?

On the right side of the typewriter, just beneath the carriage (as you are facing the typewriter) there is a small metal lever which you need to push back. It is the carriage lock used to hold the carriage in place when it's being transported in the case.

Does the carrier move all the way to the left by hand when turned off if so you need to reset the left margin.

My typewriter doesn't move forward every time i type ... what do i do?

You may need to reset your margins with the margin set button on either side of the roller. If the carriage is stuck right in the middle and will not move forwards or backwards, there is a little toggle button right under the carrier return handle. You may have to turn your TW on it's right side to see this small hidden button. This locks the carriage down for travel. Find that little toggle and move it.

Occasionally, I still have to use a typewriter for some forms. I inherited a Xerox 6015 Memorywriter but I have no manual. Is there one online that I can download? Specifically, I'm trying to figure...

hit the carriage return key to put carriage at left margin. then hit your margin release key, then backspace key to put your carriage where you want it. then hit left margin key and that should set new left margin. good luck.

Can't get the left margin to change, it is stuck way over on the right side and when I hit return it goes to about the center of the typewriter

Hi,
On carriage return the machine locates LH margin. In your case the LH margin is set in centre.
Press the margin release key when at the margin location position.
Use the backspace key to return to the extreme left.
Space forward to were you want the new margin.
Press Margin Left set.

IBM selectric II carriage stuck in right margin

There is a thin metal ribbon in the back that has come off the wheel. It is a devel of a thing to get back on.

Remove the cover and watch ... you will see what I am talking about.

It may have come un-attached ... equally difficult to fix without the little thingie the typewirter mechanic uses.

good luck

My IBM selectric II typewriter carriage stuck in right margin

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.

How to clear and set margins and tabs please on

You must hit the carriage return button to find the current position of the left margin, then hit the mar release button and use the backspace key to move the carriage to the new position that you want the margin to be set at, then hit the left margin key to set it. Then move the carriage to the right to find the right mar, hit the mar release key and use the spacebar to move the right mar to the new position you want, then hit thr right mar kay to set it.

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.

Return key doesnt work properly

Try putting a little light oil on the silver shaft that the printer slides on, WD40 works well.
