New typewriter

Hi - right out of the box, brand new, won't return past midpoint on the carriage. I've changed margin settings, etc., and all little packing protector pieces appear to be removed. Any ideas?

ApprenticeOn the right side of the typewriter, just beneath the carriage (as you are facing the typewriter) there is a small metal lever which you need to push back. It is the carriage lock used to hold the carriage in place when it's being transported in the case.
