Hi, this is simple the name of the wifi connection is the SSID, you need to login to your router via a web browser, entering default, (Assuming it hasn't been changed, if so you need to press reset button at rear of unit to restore default,) login and password, and when you are IN the router, you go to the SSID section and make it anything you want, it doesn't matter.
Please go to this link below and download your user manual, it will show you how to login to the router, using default passwords, it also will show you how to change the SSID, (Or name of the WiFi Connection)

I have a nieghbor who has somehow found out my password. How can I change my password so he can't use it anymore.

you can change your wireless encryption password by going to internet explorer
http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1
the default login/pass
  • Username = admin
  • Password = password
    • For older devices, password = 1234
if this does not work you will need to reset your router by holding the reset button for 30 seconds or more when you power it on.
  1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
  2. In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
  3. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin;password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.

  6. Under Security Options, select WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].
  7. Under Security Options (WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK), enter your desired network password into thePassphrase box.
    • WRITE DOWN or KEEP NOTE of your network name, security option and passphrase - you will require them to connect wireless computers and devices to your network.

I have been unable to connect to the wireless. Linksys has changed the configuration to "N" and have gone thrugh several other options but still cannot connect. Kindle has not be able to...

The Kindle connects to WiFi networks supporting standards 802.11b and g. If your router is configured to use 802.11n exclusively, the Kindle cannot establish a connection. However, you should be able set up your router to "mixed" mode or "b+g+n operation".

The exact procedure and naming of the option depends on your router's model name. If you cannot figure it out yourself, feel free to add a comment to this solution, providing the model name and version of your LinkSys router, and I'll probably be able to give you further advice.

Change my settings from wep to wpa I have a belkin 54g

when you change the wireless security on the router , it is recommended tht you will change the wireless network name also ( SSID ). Because when you try to connect to the wireless network on the computer, your computer will try to connect to the same old network name with the old wireless security settings. To avoid this you can change the wireless network name. WPA is supported by windows XP SP2 and above operating system.
If the operating system on your computer WINDOWS XP SP1 and if you are trying to connect using the windows utility then you would not be able to connect to the network .

Hello, You can reset the router to default. On the back of router push in the reset button/hole for 10-15 seconds. The defaults will be: IP address 192.168.1.1 User name admin. You shouldn't need a password. From there you can change username, password, SSID and enable WEP or WPA security. Hope this helps.
