Do i need to use HDMI wire if i have a cable box ?

Connect cable wire out of wall to cable box input. Attach cable wire or HDMI cable from cable output to the appropriate tv input. Turn on cable box & tv. Goto source on tv and set it to the corresponding input that you connected to the back of the tv. If your tv does not have a HDMI input then you will not get hi definition tv. You can get digital. If you got a digital adapted you follow the same procedue but instead of a cable box you connect the digital adapter.

The VCR portion is connected to yhe TV via yellow-end cable(video) from "video out" to TVs "video in" and red and white-end cables(audio) from "audio out" to TVs "audio in". The DVD plays via HDMI cable from "HDMI out" to TVs HDMI in. S-video cable can be used if no HDMI terminal is available on TV. External tuner in (cable TV, Satellite) is connected to the video and audio in terminals or better yet if S-video out is available on the tuner box.

Yes an HDMI port can be replaced, but more likely you will need to replace the entire board the HDMI resides on. Ports are typically just conductors, ie wires. It's probably not the conductors that are messed up, it's more likely the circuitry that decode the HDMI signal that is messed up. Check your cables and whatever you're trying to connect on another TV with HDMI (perhaps a friends if you don't have another TV with an HDMI port) and make sure your cables and cable box are both operational.

Get a component video cable (blue, green, red) and a separate RCA audio cable (white and red) if your cable box has a component video output and the TV has a component video input.

If your cable box doesn't have the component output, you will need a converter to go from the HDMI to component video. Something like this: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdmi-to-component.html . There are other converters available if your TV has some other inputs available.

A cable that has an HDMI M on one end and a VGA M on the other will not work. HDMI signals from the set top box are a digital signal. The VGA port on the TV is set to read an RGB analog signal. (Similarly a component to VGA cable would not work since the RGB and PbPrY are not compatible.)

Can I ask why?
If it's only a BD player only, there is no reason for connecting it to your cable box - with HDMI or any other type of cable. It simply needs to be connected directly to your TV for playback.
If it's a Blu-ray (or DVD) recorder, it can only be connected to the cable box with HDMI if the cable box has a spare HDMI OUT port and the BD recorder has an HDMI IN port.
If you want to connect the BD player to the cable box for playback on your TV via the cable box, then the cable box would need an HDMI IN port, which it's unlikely to have.

Is there a set top cable box, or are you feeding the cable directly to your HDTV (coax directly to the TV). If you are feeding cable directly to the HDTV then you don't need HDMI. There maybe exceptions, but most TV's don't have HDMI output. The only thing you need to run from your TV to the Yamaha is an audio cable. I assume your HDTV has an optical audio out (either TOS or coax.... Your Yamaha will accept either). Connect the optical audio cable to the AV4 input on the Yamaha. This way when you hit the TV scene button on the Yamaha remote, it will select the AV4 audio input (the default for the TV scene). The optical cable will feed the full audio signal, so that the Yamaha can pass through the surround sound or use the decoder as appropriate to feed your 7.1 or 5.1 speaker system.
If you have a set top box, you may be better off moving that near the Yamaha. In this case, cable goes to settop box, output of set top box via HDMI or component video (RGB) and optical audio to the Yamaha (if you use HDMI Input 2, and AV4 for the optical audio (if necessary), the TV Scene will select the appropriate inputs) and then an HDMI to your HDTV.
In case one, you may need to setup the TV to process the audio appropriately. I have experience with Panasonic Plasma but thats about it.

To correctly get HD, you need to satisfy three things.

First you need an HD tv.

Second you need an HD signal. IE.. HD cable box, Blu Ray etc..

Last, you need either HDMI wires or Components wires.


Hook the HD box up to the TV with component wires(I believe you tv doesn't have hdmi connections), go to the correct input and enjoy.

On the back of your Samsung HDTV there is a HDMI input and on the back panel of your cable box there is a HDMI output.
Connect the cable box and the HDTV using a HDMI cable .

1. This TV has setting for the HDMI input that allows you to select the HDMI Audio or Analog(red/white wire) audio. Make sure this is correct

2. Most cable boxes are DVI not HDMI. If DVI then you actually do need to use those Red/white cables. If HDMI, refer back to #1.

3. The cable box has a setting to select the Audio output, HDMI (digital) or Analog(red/white cables). Just like #1, this has to be set.

4. Contact your cable company to help you set up the box correctly. JVC can probably help you check the TV
