If the cable from monitor connects properly, then the problem might be from display driver. You'd better to update or repair the driver. Actually, you could use a third party tool to troubleshoot. The issue might be due to the corrupted display driver. I recommend you to check the issue by connecting to external monitor, then reinstall the display drivers. If there is no display even on the external monitor, then the issue might be with the graphic adapter.
