Question about Rheem 40 GAL ELEC TALL Water Heater 6YR SC 82VH402
Shut the water and power off. Connect a garden hose to the drain and open the valve as well as the t&pr valve to allow air flow. Remove the top element and inspect the gasket. It should be round without any wrinkels. Straighten the gasket if nessesary and reinstall the element.
If the water is leaking down from the top of the heater onto the thermostat, use a flashlight to inspect the connections on top of the tank, you may need to remove them and wrap them with teflon tape.
On rare occations, the machine that welds the tanks together will miss a small area. If there is no visable leak comming from any of the tank connections, you will have to tank the water heater back to the store and try another one. this is not what anyone wants to hear, but it does happen from time to time.
You can can the 1-800 number on the tank, but dealing with the store where you purchased the heater will be faster.
