Question about Sony DCR-VX2000 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

The audio on my DCR-VX2000 cuts out and in intermittently. It seems more predominant near the beginning of the tape however is very incosistent. I have cleaned the heads, used various tapes, and it still persists. I've called Sony service center in Toronto...what a joke! Without seeing the camera they told me it would be over $600.00 to repair and asked for my credit card number to get it going. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks Murray.

Tape mechanism problems are quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Tape stuck inside Sony VX2000

If you are on about the VX2000 which is similar to the professional DSR-PD150 remove battery or supply then simply apply 3volts to the main mech drive motor and unthread the mech from the load position you will notice if it is in the load position because tape will be laced around the drum assembly hence the fact you can not remove the tape

No playback pics. Blue screen. Can't record.Used x2 since service.

I just made contact with a service tech who seems very competent and who won me over. Have problem with video and audio dropout similiar to dirty heads on a 10 year old DCR-VX2000 but which is a larger problem attributed to worn parts which will need replacement. Do not know how old your unit is, but will share name of person/company if you wish. Only thing that worries me is if you by chance had had yours repaired by them!!! They are a Southern California company.

Audio drops out every few sec.(3 sec.) then ok for about 5 sec. it seams as i shake camcorder lightly side to sides the intervals changes too +1 -1. i have red here problem as tape misalignment which is...

Thats a possibility. I don't know why it costs so much since all you have to to is take a small screw driver and adjust the audio head. You might try cleaning it with a DV tape cleaner and see if that makes a difference. It's cheaper than the repair shop.

Choppy audio VX2000

tape path alignment is very critical for these cameras. audio dropout is a typical symptom of misalignment. find a good local repair shop; if they know what they are doing, it should be a simple alignment job.

Perfect picture but audio glitches...

audio "glitches" or dropout is a typical symptom of tape path misalignment. find a good local repair shop (are there any more of us still around?) and they should be able to perform this relatively simple alignment.
