Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

No power I know about the error issues and they seem to be intermittent. I have found that if you just unplug for a time, it seems to "reboot" or something and it will work after that. The problem I am having now is that after using it all day, it just stopped. I mean no power or anything. I am wondering if there is a reset switch or maybe a fuse. I unfortunately cannot find my manual but I will tear the house apart if I have to or look online. Please advise.

No fuse or reset but there is a power filter at rear, main input goes there first then to board. make sure if you are checking cables at main control board they are only in marked ports, some ports are unused but match a keyed connector.
control boards are common problems in whirlpool built machines

My Kenmore tumble action washer works fine but beeps and beeps all the time. We've tried unplugging it among other things but nothing seems to stop the beeping. It is model number 970-C47072-10. Anyone...

Possible there are errors within the panel or there is flow issues. You can check the inlet flow, remove inlet valve and check, if not clean and reset. Also check on the drain filter, remove and clean.
If the fault stays, it can be due to moisture in the panel or a memory issue on the processor. remove panel , heat using a dryer, reconnect all harness tightly and try.

I'm getting error code FL when trying to start my washer. It will start to fill with water and then error. Please help! It seems like the door is locked.

Hi

A Door Lock Error occurs if the door cannot be locked. It will try to lock it six times before displaying the error code. It has happened because Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door. It may also happen due to Door switch/lock unit failure. To resolve the issue follow these steps---
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check door switch/lock unit.
3. Check the wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU).
Hope this helps...Please post back if you need more information.

Machine keeps stopping

Hi there,
Had the same problem and thought that it was electronic driven. It seems that "rebooting" the washer solved it (as in unplugging for 30sec then plugging back). Investigating a smell issue I just found out about the filter located behind the bottom front panel (3 screws to remove at bottom of panel). The trap was full of stuff (as in really bad). I suspect that it prevented the machine from draining fully/properly/timely and messed the programs up causing the machine to stop. You might have a similar problem...
Good luck

Flashing code F71 then F70

We've owned a Whirlpool Duet Washer (WFW9200SQ00) for about 3 years. We started getting the F70 error code intermittently about 6 months ago and it seems to progressively be getting worse. Unplugging the unit for a few minutes resets the error, but it comes back about every 2nd or 3rd load causing my wife a lot of frustration and with 4 kids, our laundry was backing up. After reading several Forum's, I found the F70 error code indicates a "heartbeat" communication error between the various electronic boards inside the washer and the consensus seems to be the most likely culprit is the Motor Control Unit (MCU) board. Before spending nearly $250 for a replacement board (http://www.helpfulparts.com/servlet/the-5733/8183196/Detail) with no guarantee that it would fix the problem, I decided to take the board out of the machine and inspect it. What I found is the connector for the communication (the connector with three blue wires) on this board is a very unreliable connector that uses the edge of the printed circuit board on one side of the connection instead of a real connector soldered to the board. In addition, the fit of this connector seems to loose to make a good connection. I noticed a little bit of corrosion on the board contacts which I cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a pencil eraser. After re-installing the cleaned board we've done several loads with (keeping my fingers crossed) no errors. I am still concerned about the reliability of this connection. Because of it's location, this board is subject to a fair amount of vibration and because of the loose fit I'm concerned that this issue will only come back over time. I've already decided that if the error comes back I will solder wires to the contacts on the board to provide a more robust connection. It's a shame that you can spend well over $1,000 on a top of the line washer, and in order to save $.10 Whirlpool decided to use a very poor connector in a critical area. It makes you wonder where else did they skimp to save a few pennies?!! Our next washer will not be a Whirlpool, and next time will not get a high end washer with all the bells and whistles.

Q. "It seems to have a sort of oscillating grinding noise. Would a malfunctioning pump cause this problem? That seems easy enough to replace."

A. Yes the pump could be the cause of your problem....and especially if it is making a grinding noise.....If it was me I would replace the Pump....good luck
