Question about Air Purifiers

1 Answer

Just unpacked breeze after it was stored for 2 years, in original packaging and no apparent damage, washed filter, checked on cleanliness and turned on. Fan does not run, other options appear to be working. What can I do to troubleshoot?

DO NOT USE IT WITH A DEFECTIVE PLATE!!!

It should be used with 2 plates. Order new plates IMMEDIATELY. They aren't too expensive, and hopefully will save your machine if it hasn't been damaged too severely.

Call Vollara (new name for EcoQuest) (1-800-989-2299) and use #16618 as your Dealer Referral number.

the ionic breeze uses high voltage to move/filter air .. if the insulators break down there will be an arc such as what you see .. there is a way to dig out the carbonized material and seal it with materials that can handle the high voltage but any repairs are costly .. its unlikely you can repair it for less than a new conventional filter .. the ionic breeze was unique and expensive but didn't move a lot of air ..it was quiet but often produced some ozone .. long exposure to ozone is not a good thing .. here is a site where you can learn more about your unit
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_ioniser
check out where it says "Consumer Reports court case" ... that said, the electrostatic concept does probably remove small particles that are hard to do with conventional filters .. the arcing you see in your unit is indeed not safe . ... here is more that you likely don't want to hear..

i am sorry to say that your expensive ionic breeze is not safe and not repairable.

MY IONIC AIR PURIFIER KEEPS SHUTTING OFF; INTERIOR "CLEAN" ?????

Those and ionizing air cleaners like them were panned by CR for producting way more ozone than you want in the room and filtering far less than you would think. If it has failed dispose of it and get one with a filter you can change.

I have the same problem as gerardperez7. One of my germicidal light quadras won't turn the light on and doesn't appear to be cleaning the air at all. I even put a new light bulb in it and it doesn't fix the problem.

How do I clean my EcoQuest Breeze?

The purifier should be cleaned about once a month and you should do the following:
  1. Unplug the Breeze before cleaning.
  2. Wipe the Breeze with a soft cloth dampened with water, vacuum the front grill to remove any lint buildup.
  3. Cleaning the rear lint screen - You can either vacuum the filter or you can wash in hot water. Allow to dry before reinstalling the lint screen. Do not use soap, it will damage the carbon material in the lint screen.
  4. Remove the purifier plate from the purifier and soak in 1 part amonia and 1 part water solution for 10-20 minutes. Gently scrub the metal grid on the plate with a toothbrush and rinse with water. Clean the metal contacts with the same solution. Allow the plate to dry overnight or use a hair dryer to dry throughly.

Sharper Image recalled the product line after losing a court case with Consumer Reports. They couldn't prove that they worked, lost the case, had to pay all the legal bills, and filed for Chapter 11.

Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to issue a report at the end of the year on all ionizers. Their decision could prevent the sale of them in the U.S. Even data on the EPA website shows that not only do they not work but they could be harmful to peoples health to use.

Sharper Image Ionic Breeze Gp Silent Air Purifier

Ionic Breeze machines are no longer being supported. Sharper Image recalled the product several months ago after it was proven by Consumer Reports and the EPA that the product wasn't cleaning the air and can be harmful to use. Sharper Image took legal action and lost.

The Consumer Product Safety Comission is going to make a decision on all ionizers by the end of the year. It's looking like all ionizers will no longer be sold in the U.S. regardless of who makes them.

Sharper image ionic breeze air cleaner

There isn't one. The reason why Sharper Image went out of business is because the Ionic Breeze was proven to be ineffective product and harmful to use in some cases based on Consumer Reports data as well as data from the EPA. They sued Consumer Reports, lost the case, and had to pay all the legal bills.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to making decision on all ionizers by the end of the year. It's quite possible that no one will be selling them anymore.

There is thread I left in the Ionic Breeze section about the EPA data on ionizers and the harmful effects of using them as well as a link about what happen to Sharper Image.

This product should have been regulated a long time ago. Orek and few others are going to be pulling the plug on them real soon.
