SOURCE: thick black line through page when copying or scanning

Sounds like part of your scanner is not functioning and reading black all the time. Probably best to return it for a replacement.

SOURCE: Faint grey lines Every 1/3rd of a printed page

This is the test to determine toner or fuser issue.
Print a test page
When you hear the paper feed into the machine open the top to stop the machine
Remove the toner cart.
You should be able to see the page with printing on it. (This is before the page hits the fuser)
If you can see the smudge or marks on the page the problem is most likely the cartridge or cleaning roller but NOT the fuser.
If the page is clean the problem is most likely the fuser.

I am getting a thick black line in the middle of my printed document when I use my mfc 8220

I am going on the presumption that you are getting this thick black line when printing from your computer. It can be a couple of things but firstly remove the toner/drum unit from the printer.
Check that the blue tag at the end of the top end of the drum unit ( used for cleaning the corona wire or drum unit & slides from 1 side to the other. ), is in the correct left correct position. If it is in the middle then that is what is causing this mark. It should be on the side of the drum unit where the arrows match.
If the blue slider is not in the middle then have a look at the drum & see if there is a black mark around it. If there is then you will need to replace the drum unit.
If you are only getting this mark when photocopying or faxing then there is a mark on the small piece of glass at the left hand side under thye document feeder.

I'M GETTING A THICK BLACK LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE OF MY. PHOTO AND UPLOAD. TRIED RE CALIBRATING WITH WHITE PAPER. DIDN'T WORK HELP

What printer do you have? Is the black line appearing on the paper when you print or when you fax/copy something?
If it is the latter, then there will be a mark on the optics glass that needs to be cleaned. Usually people using whiteout when wet causes this.
You will need to lift the cover where the paper goes through and check the glass

When I copy or fax with my 4215 it leaves a thick black stripe down the middle of the page, but not when I print off the computer.

There should be somewhere for you to open the printer to see the area that reads the document (might be a small strip of glass), there could be something stuck on this area (tiny spec the width of your line), thus causing the lines on the scan and not the prints. I am not too familiar with that model, so that is the best I have for you. Hope it helps.

Thick Black Line on my copies and faxes

Can't image it being anything but scan glass, if prints are fine, are you sure you cleaning scan glass(inside of where originals are fed)?

If so then scanner lamp faulty, but I've never come across it myself on this model.
