This sounds like your water inlet valve may be the problem. Read the following blog:
http://www.refrigerators.com/howtoreplaceanicemakerswaterinletvalve.aspx
Make sure the water feed line to the unit is clean, and you don't have bad lines or unusual line deposits. Oh, sometimes the hot water line is tapped off to the ice-maker. Make sure it's off the cold line, since people can get deposits out of their hot water heater. Here is a Whirlpool icemaker article that may help you:

Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

Changed water filter, now no water coming out of dispenser and not making ice making ice

It's possible it was installed improperly.... try removing it and re-installing. May have a filter that is clogged... only way to determine this is to replace it with another new one.

Why my refrigerator is leaking water from the top where the water filter is located?

Shut off water supply valve. Relieve water pressure by dispensing water. Unscrew water filter. Examine to see if the gasket is damaged or if filter was loose and just needed tightening. Or simply replace water filter with the correct water filter that your GE refrigerator calls for.

My 8 year old fridge has stopped producing water and ice through the door. What could be the problem?

Hi

If you have not recently changed the water filter, then do so, then flush through to draw off around a gallon of water.

It should supply water then 12 hours later you should get ice

We have a Whirlpool Side by side fridge with water & ice dispensor. It has stopped making ice. We have gone through the troubleshooting guide and even emptied it and turn it off for several hours to...

It could be your optics...or your water valve not getting water to ice maker.. Water filter would affect your water dispenser also if it was clogged..

Hope that helps

Cheers

Ed25rfxfw01 whirlpool fridge water dispenser ...I have a slow drip from the dispenser hose. I assume I need a new water inlet valve. How do I access the inlet valve for replacing?

It should be on the right hand side in the back take off the compressor cover on the back should be 8 or so 1/4 screws nutdriver type and then two more hold on the water valve. If you have a RO system hooked up to refrig you may need to change the filters on the ro or just change the filter on the refrig. those two will also cause the water to drip thru the valve allowing it to drip on the front

My new Whirlpool Refrigerator the water and ice still stink

We have the same problem. Started 2 weeks after purchase. (6 months ago). Tech. replaced fliter, worked for another 2 weeks, then water & ice awful again. Tried to live w/ it - ordered another filter a week ago. Replaced & within 24 hrs. problem was back. Called Whirlpool. Said tech who came to my househad written in his report that tap water & fridge water tasted the same. A lie - he agreed w/ me that the water from fridge was bad, & replaced filter which had a musty odor. Whirlpool basically called me a liar but agreed to send another tech to check it out. I will never buy another Whirlpool product & plan to tak this problem as far as I need to in order to get satisfaction. This is ridiculous!

Dirty water line from filter

Attach flexable rubber line from water bottle, like is used for race bicycle riders,or tape up a hose to a water bottle. Turn off valve at water pipe leadign to line to filter. Remove filter. place a pan to catch water under the machine. Attach A small diameter hose to water line where water exits to glass. With machine turned on and your rubber hose attached turn bottle upside down and squeeze while pressign glass lever. Flush through approximate one quare or until water stream is clear. Their is no pumb ofor flow the line preaure is al that moves the water so backflushing is easy.

Remove the water filter

Yes if it is the filter that is located where the bottom grill is..... It rotates 1/4 trun counter clockwise. If you cant seem to break it loose try removing the grill by pulling it towards you (it clips on) take not of the tabs on the grill and the clips on either side of the fridge. Now you can get a better grip. Also its a good time to look and see how dirty coil is under refrig.
