What are the 8 keys above the function keys, my keyboard doesn't state what the keys are and I have no idea

Those keys do not exist on normal keyboards so they are unique to your keyboard. You need to look at the make and model of your keyboard and use Google.com to search for information about it. Typically, manufacturers add extra keys to make it easier to change volume settings and open email or internet programs. The icons on the buttons should be a clue to their function.

I hope this helps.

Volume control and other functions not working on my keyboard

Keyboards are dispossable parts of the computer , because of the usage sometimes, some key didn't work , the reason is the the flex wire connection underneath each key is very tin, so sometimes if we press the keys too hard, it might damaged the flex,

You can either use the volume control builtin to the operating system or you can try re-installing the device driver for the hardware volume control.

Compaq keyboard randomly stopped working. Caps lock/Numb lock/ ect. light do not light up, shortcut buttons on top of keyboard flash once when I unplug the keyboard and plug it back in (not usb)

Hello

Have you tried another keyboard? What troubles me is you said that lights blink when you unplug and replug it in. This jack was never intened to be hot swappable (meaning plug and unplug with power on. I hope the only thing wrong is the keyboard else you'll need a serviceperson to diagnose the motherboard.

Software to make use of keys at the top of compaq keyboard sdm4700p

There is special software available from HP/Compaq that will allow the "Easy Access" buttons to work. I think there is also a template for Word, to make the label for the buttons. The software is about 7mb. For download check this HP page:

The file name is SP20295

What are buttons on sides of keyboard

Most likely these are buttons to adjust the volume control of the PC, but will only work if the keyboard driver disk is installed.
