DWSR483EAWW GE Dryer doesn't turn off when set to "Optimum Dry"

Does the timer advance to the end or does it stop advancing in the middle of the cycle?
If the unit does advance to the end on timed but it won't advance on auto, that means your cycling thermostat isn't triggering. First, make sure your vent is cleaned and the best way to do that is just run a cycle without the vent hose connected to the back of the dryer to see if things change. If your dryer still won't dry properly, then the cycling thermostat will need to be replaced because it's not cycling properly.

Try it on the timed cycle. If it doesn't advance, then you have a bad timer and the timer will need to be replaced.

The cycling thermostat is mounted to the front of the blower wheel housing.

Here is the timer if it is found bad.

Roper dryer res7648kq0, replaced heat element, thermal fuse, cycling thrm, thermal kit, checked outlet, circuit breaker, still not heat, will not advance on AUTO, but will on timed cycle. Now what?

Wow.
In electric dryers with an AUTO cycle; the heater runs on 220 volts, but the timer motor runs on 110 volts. There is a resistor in the system to cut down the voltage. If the resistor is bad, you will see the same symptoms as if a thermostat was bad. The timer motor will not run in the automatic cycle. You need to make sure that you test for continuity in the resistor.
I've looked at two parts diagrams for your washer and cannot find a sensor anywhere in either, so the thermostat is what tells the timer to advance once the dryer reaches a preset temperature.
The thermostat will only tell the timer to advance if the dryer reaches the proper temperature, if you have some clogging in the vents, the dryer may never reach the proper temperature, and thus not advance on the auto cycle. but i'm sure you've probably checked that. I'm baffled. Let me know how it pans out if you can. Thanks. I'm still trying to find a wiring diagram for that model.

thanks,

Mike

Dryer timer doesnt advance.

If the timer does not advance even on the time dry cycle then you have a bad timer motor. You would need to replace the timer to rectify the problem. Hope this helps _MJ_

Timers are not advancing through cycle. Dryer just continues to run. Thank you for your assistance. Chuck

Hi Chuck,
If the dryer is heating up and the timer will not advance in either time or automatic cycles, you will need to change the timer. If the timer advances in time cycle but not the auto cycle, you need to make sure it is heating properly. The timer only advances in the auto cycle after it reaches a certain temperature.
I hope this helps you at all. Please let me know if I can assist you further in this matter.

Thanks
Vic

I have a roper electric dryer model # rex3514pqu. The dryer doesn't heat at all and the timer will not move, it stays where I set it. What could cause this problem?

If you have a TIMED cycle, the timer should advance heat or not. In the AUTO dry cycle the timer will not advance without heat. Unplug the dryer. Remove the rear panel of the dryer and check the heat element, relays and thermostats with a volt meter set for ohms. No reading indicates a bad part. Remember to remove at least one wire from each component before testing.

Kenmore drier model 110.96591440 will not cut off in either drying cycle

DO YOU MEAN IT WON'T SHUT OFF? DOES THE TIMER ADVANCE? IF IT STAYS IN THE SAME PLACE, AND YOU ARE ON AN "AUTO DRY" CYCLE, THE TIMER WON'T ADVANCE IF THERE IS A RESTRICTION IN THE EXHAUST.
DISCONNECT THE DRYER EXHAUST FROM THE BACK OF THE DRYER AND TRY ONE LOAD OF LAUNDRY. IF IT WORKS O.K., THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR DRYER DUCT WORK. HAVE IT CLEANED OUT AND TRY IT AGAIN.
