Question about Saeco Aroma Espresso Machine

1 Answer

I've had Saeco Aroma Espresso machine for 5 or 6 years and used it a couple of times practically every day. Overall it's been great but maybe a year ago it started leaking through the steaming wand while espresso was brewing. And about a month ago it started intermittently spurting water through the side of the portafilter unit. When this would happen I would stop it and take the portafilter out, add new coffee and start over. Usually it would work and produce espresso. But lately it started having this problem all the time -- that water comes out of the side of the portafilter unit. I tried taking the portafilter unit apart and cleaining it, but it still happens. I'm wondering if it is worth it to replace the portafilter -- I see it advertised for $60 or so .

It is possible that the group gasket needs to be replaced.

The water leaking out of the portafilter - caused by a dirty or worn gasket, like was said before.

If it leaks though the brewhead - leaky exit valve.

If it leaks through the steam wand - wear on the steam valve.

The first two issues can be fixed easily and inexpensively. For the steam valve, you can either replace the valve or grind and lap the needle so it will fit like it did when new. I've posted a method and another user has posted a pictorial how-to.

Off topic comment to Fixya: paragraphs still don't work, making it very difficult for readers when lengthy responses are posted.

Saeco how to reset

called saeco helpdesk and with their assistance found the reset button inside the machine (open the top with a screwdriver). there are three termostates. on the middle one there is a button. when you push it you hear a metallic sound. then you have to close everything and put it on again.

how to avoid this problem: it is important that there comes no air into the heater. So you have to watch the water supply carefully and leave the air out from time to time.

How to clean the saeco aroma ??

Buy an espresso machine descaling agent (they come in packets, and you can get them all over the internet), and follow the instructions that come with it. Do NOT use vinegar like you might use on a drip machine.

My Saeco Aroma Expresso machine has water leaks

Hi,

I think you have to replace the gasket in the machine where the portafiller fits on the machine.

Make sure your filter is clean before you replace any gasket.

Hi Espressoless,

You have to force in water to the machine, to this you need a bellow pump or similar and force it into the water tank inlet when you do a priming.
