I have a possible solution, but it would be helpful to know what operating system you have on your eMac. Mac OS X is the Mac operating system. Do you have Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3, or 10.4, for example.
Solution:Do you have your system discs for your eMac or an Mac OS X installation disc? You'll need it to fix the problem. Use the newest disc you have.
WARNING: There is a _slight_ risk of loss of your data (pictures, documents, etc.) when reinstalling your operating system. Backing up your precious photos and other documents is critical!

1. If the eMac is on, hold down the power button until it turns off. 2. Turn the eMac while holding down the mouse button. 3. When the CD/DVD drive opens, put the system disc in (use disc #1 if you have more than one disc). 4. Turn the machine off again by holding down the power button. 5. Turn the machine on while holding down the C key on the keyboard to boot from CD (or DVD). 6. Wait until the eMac boots from your system disc. 7. You should see the install screen. There should be an Options button. Click the Options button. 8. One of the choices will be to do an "Archive and Install". Go ahead and do an "Archive and Install", which will reinstall the operating system but leave your photos and other files. See cautions above. **Do _NOT_ click the option to ERASE the hard drive** or you'll lose all your photos, etc. 9. Once it's all done (expect it to take an hour or more), you should be able to use your computer normally.
Good luck. I hope this is understandable. If you need more help, please post again. *Please rate me if this helped.* Thanks!

Emachines e528 touchpad not working

Hello try to renew the driver from here:

https://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/default.aspx?modelId=3234

Please unzip the file before you install.
Try uninstall the old one first

Or the touchpad have a fault.

You can buy a wireless mouse if you have no luck with the driver.

Good luck

Black emac screen

Hi, this could be a number of things but the most likely cause is probably the leaking capaitor syndrome. At about the time these machines were made there was a flood of faulty capacitors throughout the electronics world and the factpriews that made the mother boards for the eMac were particularly badly hit.Did the screen exhibit any flashing or streaking or random freezing before the failure? Thses are typical precursors.
Unfortunately the only thing you can do is to take it to a (Apple) repair centre where they will be able to judge if it is repairable or not.The leaking capacitors quite often ruined the mother-board. If theyu were caught in time they were repairable but .......
If the eMac is still running, connect it to an external monitor and then clone your HD to a blank HD using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.

I have an emac G$ 700Mhz 128MB/40GB/Combo with two related problems: 1. On power up, I get a blank grey screen that, after a while, changes to a similar screen, except that at its center is a small...

I've never used a hair pin-- a straightened paperclip has always worked for me.
One alternate solution (if you have another computer available) would be to boot the eMac into target disk mode by holding T during startup. It should show a firewire icon on the screen, and should act like an external hard drive when you connect it to another computer via a firewire cable. You can use this method to install the OS onto the eMac from another Mac. You can try Googling "Target Disk Mode" if you need more information.

After starting my emac a screen comes up asking me to log in above it says darwin/bsd (user-s-emac-2.local) (console)

Sounds like some of your system files may have been corrupted. Restart your computer with you OS disc, and when it launches, go to the top menu and look for "Disk Utilitiy". Launch and see if you can repair the files that way. If not you may have to reinstall the system software. If so, choose the option that won't erase your info on your drive.
Last resort is to wipe the drive clean and reinstall the OS fresh, but this will erase everything.
Before erasing everything, if you have access to a second mac, you can connect the emac to the other mac via a firewire cable, turn on your emac in hard drive mode by starting it while holding down the "T" key. You'll get a firewire icon on the screen. Then turn on the second mac... you can off load any files to the second mac and then reinstall the OS via the OS discs.
Best of success.

My eMac doesn't like to restart after being put to sleep or turned off. When the power button is pushed it will beep 3-4 times and the white power light flashes in sets of 3 short lights, and the screen...

I know emacs have had there times and this might be the cause for yours as well. Do this: turn the mac upside down take off the memory cover from the unit using a screwedriver now you will see 2 round capcitors there check to see if there buldging at the top or leaking for the bottom. Now not all caps leak they just buldge. If this is the case you have a couple options here 1. repair it yourself 2. take the logicboard out of the system (a lots of work) and log on to www.badcaps.net this dude will repair it for $75.00 plus shipping Thanks

Network a G4 (OS 9) to a eMac (OS X)

OK - first, crossover cables let you network PCs together without a switch or router. I would strongly recommend returning the crossover cable and buying a router so that you can use both computers on the internet at the same time.

Second, the eMac monitor can not directly be used as a monitor for your G4 - it's not built that way. However, you can use Screen Sharing on OS X (if both have Leopard) or Apple Remote Desktop software (if you buy it) to remote control the G4 using the eMac.

You will DEFINITELY need a monitor on the G4 in order to set it up at all, so I hope you have that.

Keep in mind that you can buy, for less than $200, an LCD screen that is larger and better quality than the eMac, and it would leave the eMac useful as a second computer. Since the eMac is unlikely to work at all with Leopard, and you'd have to buy Apple Remote Desktop, you're going to spend less money by buying a separate screen for the G4.
