Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To start with try to blow compressed air around the lens cover so that if there is any dirt it cleans if off. You can also stick a thin strip of paper between the lens shutter and the outer support ring & move it in a way that it clears the debris that's stuck in there. If still the issue is not resolved then you'll have to replace the lens assembly & lens mechanism to fix this issue. It is recommended to be done by a professional. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

I don't think it is the lens assembly. When I plug the camera into my computer to down load pictures the lens assembly retracts fully and the screen menu pops on.

Get zoom error when turning camera on, also lens will not retact when camera is turned off.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Camera wont turn on zoom lens is stuck out camera power light comes on flashes for a few second the screen shows a E18 then it shuts itself down

The lens motor or drive has failed. Thats why you are getting the error and the lens won't retact.

This is covered under warrenty if you have any. If not it can cost more than a new camera to get fixed. If you conact canon support or conact your local repair depot they should be able to tell you the cost. Sometimes they will have a flat fixit fee that will cover repair or replacement. Thats cheaper than a new camera but not that much.

My camera when swited on will switch its self off straight away

Its the lens that is faulty. Cam is designed to shut-off automatically when it is experiencing struggle extending or retacting the lens. Lens doesn't extend while reviewing pictures that is why it is not shutting off.

You need to send the camera for warranty.
Process it @ www.kodak.com/go/stepbystep
Or call Kodak Technical Support 1-800-235-6325 Ext #1 For English #12 Camera Dept. #2 For Service and Hardware Dept.

My pentax optio s10 does not retact lens

Most likely the small drive gear has skipped a tooth. If you turn the camera on and off you will here a high frequency "buzz" noise which is the small stepper motor trying to move the lense in and out.

If you don't hear this, then the stepper motor may have gone bad.

If you do here the buzz noise, try gently the tapping the extended lense on a rigid table top as this may re-align the small gear drive allowing the lense to retract.

I had this happen on mine and it works fine now.

Error 99 in Canon EOS 350 D

Try the following diagnosis steps, in this exact order. This will isolate the cause of the issue: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

This error occurs if camera is turned on before lens cap is removed. If you are removing the lens cap before turning the camera on and still getting this message, camera should be serviced by a qualified technician.
