Question about Kenmore Dryers
Dryer stays on as long as on button is pushed in,when released it shuts off.
Before replacing the motor, check under the console for a motor relay. If a motor relay is present replace it. On some models the relay is part of the start switch. The relay will be a black, square device with 3 to 4 wires on it. There may also be a relay for the heater. If so, replace it too as it may be ready to fail soon.

SOURCE: GE dryer starts but..... stops
What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.

this problem sounds like it can only be 1 of 2 problems. the start button or the motor is not going into run winding. i found over the years that the blue wire i believe is burnt at the motor. this can be repaired quite easily .cut the wire and strip it putting a new connector on. if you need to you can buy an assortment at a hardware store. if every thing is good check the start button for burnt wire if ok then you most likely have a bad motor. i'm pretty sure though that a wire is burnt off at the motor
