Have you seen the laptop working before you bought it??
It can be either a memory mismatch (make sure you're using SODIMM Module(s) of DDR2/533Mhz) or that something else if defective with the laptop (usually the motherboard!)...
Anyway, try this:
Take out the battery and disconnect the laptop from any power source. Afterwards, press the power button few times repeatedly... Reinsert the power cable (only) and try powering up normally. If it powers up normally, shut down the computer, reinsert the battery - and try powering up again.
Something to think about: Do you know why the computer got sold? Do you trust the person/place that sold it to you? You might been given a defective product - just mentioning a possibility...
