In the front of the computer, on the left side is the hard drive.

You must flip the laptop over, and remove two philips head screws with a cylinder symbol next to them. Then simply slide it out.

If you are replacing the Hard drive, you will need to unscrew the metal cage around the old hard drive, and the black plastic piece. Then screw on the plastic piece, and the cage, slide it in, and your good to go. (you will need a copy of windows to be installed)

SOURCE: what hot keys will unlock

There isn't a hotkey to unlock a hard drive. It's locked from within the BIOS.

When you boot the computer you should see a message saying Press " key " for setup.

Inside there is where the hard drive password is set.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I did a diagnostic test on a dell inspiron 1525 and everything passed except the hard drive with error code 0142, what does this mean and can it be fixed, thanks.

Hi,

Based on
Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers - KB Article - 30042,
it is a Hard Drive failure, and you need to replace the Hard Drive.

I suggest to try reinstall windows first before you replace the Hard Drive.

Hope it helps you.

I have a two-year old Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. for no apparent reason, it will now not boot up. When I turn it on, I get the following message......"Internal hard disk not found. To resolve this...

The hard drive may have failed or a virus has corrupted the Cmos data.
Try entering the BIOS and checking that the Cmos recognises that the hard drive is there. If it doesn't, remove the hard drive and re fit it, booting up again.

The hard drive has failed. If you're in warranty, contact Dell for a warranty replacement of the drive - it's a customer-replaceable part.
If you're out of warranty, look on ebay for a good deal on a brand new hard drive for your Dell Inspiron 1525
