I have the little gadget noted above that I have used sucessfully on an old Dell Laptop that just crapped out. Now I am trying to make this Cruzer Micro work a different Dell, a Dell INSPIRON 1100, but it won't work. I have already gone to the Sandisk site but can't seem to find the right "driver" (is this what I should be looking for?)
Also I am this really old guy that is often screwed up. I have no idea how this FixYa site works ... Am I suppose to pay you? If not, how do you make money? If I am in the wrong place, is there someone you know that could help me? Frank Haines, Ithaca, NY, USA
My device worked fine until I used it on a 98 system, without using any driver updates, and then came back to XP. Now it doesnt work on XP but still works fine on 98. Power button is top left corner of keyboard above the "Esc" key.
If you are trying to shutdown from Windows 8, follow these steps:
1. Mouse over the little gadget in the lower right corner of the screen. (You can also move your mouse cursor to the upper left corner; same result. Or, you can press Windows-C on your keyboard.)
2. In the slide-out menu (known as the Charms Bar) that appears, click Settings.
3. Click the Power button, and then click your desired action: Sleep, Shut down, or Update and restart.
This Cruzer driver package for the SanDisk Cruzer Micro is needed only for Windows 98. Windows Me, 2000 and XP already have the driver (if you are having trouble using the drive on these systems, then it is likely to be a conflict or problem in Windows - see the Windows Device Manager and Windows Help file for details).
After you download the Cruzer driver file, unzip the contents and click setup.exe to begin. Importantly, you should restart Windows 98 so the new Cruzer drivers can properly load into your system. Next, plug in the Cruzer drive and Windows will finish the installation. Restart your computer if needed.
(WARNING: After running this low level format tool, the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased. Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)
