Why is pcouffin device for amd 64 bit systems showing up on my ASUS Laptop running Windows 7 64-bit with an intel dual-core i5 chipset?

It is a low level driver for CD's and DVD's supplied as part of some softwares.
See this page for ore information.
What is Pcouffin

It is not a virus, but check the file sizes mentioned. The message is misleading as it means X64 systems, not just AMD.

I have an asus u52f or also known as the u53f with the windows 7 version i caught a virus n did not have the recovery disc after i ordered from asus n loaded the disc once i cam to the utilities n drivers...

Why didn't you just get rid of the virus which is the easy solution? Or you could have done a System Restore to a restore point (date and time) before you caught the virus.

Unfortunately most times those Recovery Discs don't work. The best Recovery Disk that works is the one the manufacturer puts on your hard drive.

Have you checked your hard drive to see if there is a Recovery Partition on it?

See if you can run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I AM HAVING A SLOW LOADING OF WINDOWS XP SP 1. I AM POSITIVE THAT MY LAPTOP IS HAVING A VIRUS. HOW CAN I FORMAT THE HARD DISK DRIVE?

Put in your recovery disk and restart the computer a clean install of windows will format the hard drive automatically! If you don''t have the recovery disk you'll need a windows disk to do the same.
Do you have it set to FAT32 or NTFS? If it's FAT32 you can pop in a windows 98 rescue disk and restart the computer with CD support type in A: and enter then you type in like this A:\ format C: /s
and it will prompt you to carry on by selecting Y for yes hit enter and start formatting.
You then have to remove the floppy put in your windows disk or rescue disk(which has windows XP on it) and restart and select install at the following prompts etc
You can reboot to Safe mode alternatively(restart and hit F8 when POST messages are displayed) and scroll up to safe mode and enter. If you have an anti virus software program installed you can run a scan and remove any possible viruses that way or if you know what the virus is use the search function and find and delete the infected files!

ASUS desktop help!

Three possibilities:

1. when you start your computer, there could be a message "press BLAH to start SYSTEM RECOVERY". If so, then do so, and you may be able to reinstall Windows.

2. before you reformatted, there could have been a program on your computer that allowed you to burn your own "System Recovery" sets of CD/DVD disks.
Too late now to run that software!

3. Contact ASUS. Since your computer was factory-loaded with a Microsoft OS, they may be able to provide you with a replacement set of CD/DVD disks.

Bios is able to see the Seagate drive, ST380011A,but not OS.

Do you have a low level boot disk or disk utilities (DOS or Windows recovery boot disk, Knoppix, etc)? The drive may need to be partition and set active so you can do a low level format. It is a basic ATA drive and should have no problems down to Windows 98. BIOS looks at the chipset for information first and not the partitions until the POST reaches its proper check point.

How to format low level format

Hi,

You can download a software named Disk Manager from Seagate website and then write the program on to a CD, boot the computer using a Windows 98 bootable cd and then insert the Disk Manager and open the program, you will get the options to low level format
