I have a Bulova 11anacb (1970) 23 jewel auto wind in for repair. Is there a trick to setting the day/date function? There are only 2 positions on the stem. Not 3 as is usual for day/date setting??

SOURCE: Setting the darn thing

If you don't have the instruction manual you can go to this link and on the right side of the page you can type in the model number. (it will tell you where to locate the model number) I tried this for a Bulova from 1998 and it worked but I don't know how far it will go back but it's worth a try.

SOURCE: Helbros Invincible c.1970 wristwatch hairspring

Take a closer look at the movement, especially under the balance wheel (use an eyeglass). There should be movement code. By that you can find the real movement manufacturer and the hairspring or balance complete will be easier to trace.

SOURCE: Day, date and time for a Bulova TFX watch

Step 1. When the second hand re a ches 12 o ’ clock (the zero or 60th second mark ) , pull the crown all the way to the “OUT ”position (you will hear two “ cl i ck s ” ) .All hands will stop.

Step 2. Turn the crown to move hands FORWARD (clockwise) until you see the date (for date only) or both day and date change. This establishes midnight, t h e b e ginning of the day.

Step 3. For A.M .time, continue to move hands forward until the minute hand is approxim a t e ly 5 minutes beyond the desired minute marker ;then ,gently turn b a ck to the same marke r. For P. M .time , follow the same procedure ,but first a dvance  the hands past 12 o’clock .

N O T E : The date will advance automatically at midnight, p rovided that A . M .a n d P. M .h ave been established (Steps 2 and 3).The watch calendar is pro grammed for a 31-day cycle. The  refore ,on the fi rst day of any month fo l l owing a month with fewer than 31 day s , the date must be advanced manually (see Step 5).

Step 4. When the time standard by which you are setting your wa t ch ( e.g.,telephone beep) re a ches the 60th second, push the crown all the way to the “ I N ”position . All hands will start instantly.

Step 5. Pull the crown to the “ I N T E R M E D I AT E ”position (one “ cl i ck ” ) . Your watch will continue to tell time. S l ow ly turn crown one way until the correct date a p p e a rs .Then for day/date models, s l ow ly turn crown the other way until the correct day appears .

N O T E : The day is printed in two successive positions on the day indicator: i n English and in Spanish on U. S .m o d e l s ; in English and in Fre n ch on Canadian mode l s It is possible to make use of either position. The display will automatically re m a i n in the language ch o s e n .
The date should never be ch a n ged manu a l ly between 9:00 P. M . and 3:00 A . M .a s this might affect the calendar mechanism and the accuracy of the date. ( Theme chanism will not be damaged if the crown is turned accidentally during this
time peri o d ,howeve r. )

Hope it helped U!

SOURCE: Bulova has mechanical day/date display near 3

I believe you are just outside your warranty. Its time to see a watch maker/technician about repairing the watch. Often times slowing is as easy to fix as lubricating the movement and forcing the gear train through the use of a cyclonic device. This fix takes minutes and is very cost effective. If the slowing is due t circuit board issues or a more sever gear train problem then the movement will need to be overhauled. I suggest comparing this cost to the cost of a replacement movement.

MY ladies Bulova has a case Number U772340 says 17 jewell also say L9 RFG ROLLED

What is the question? This sounds like a manual watch the L9 stands for the date of production. You can look this up on the internet. Google Bulova code dates. L9 is around 1970's if not mistaken. It is also rolled gold plate one of the lower end watches. Most manuals are 17 jewels, the more the jewels the higher the price and worth.

I have a Tissot Automatic PR 516 from the early 70s. Time is kept well. Date moves forward correctly but it is the wrong date. I am unable to turn back the date. I am able to turn back the day. Any...

The crown wheel (winder) should have 3 positions, (1) the normal winding position (3) fully out; at this position the watch stops and the time can be adjusted.

(2) This position is between the 1 & 2 and is used to adjust the day and date. If you wish to change the date by winding the crown backwards or forwards.

Since watches can very a little, if turning the crown when in position 2 the date does not change, pull the crown to position 3 and turn the hands until you pass the midnight position, when the date will change and then re-set the time. If you wish to advance the time more than one day, when it changes, wind the crown backwards past the midnight position and then wind it forwards again. Repeat until the correct date is showing and then re-set the time. The exact distance you need to turn the crown to change the date will have to be found by experimenting!

I'm tryng to set the date without changing the day and time. I've tried to just pull the pin out half way but its not working. How do I do this? My watch has three dials on the face - 1)date, 2) day and 3)...

mcdevito75 here, It takes practice, the crown does have 2 positions, slip a fingernail just under the crown and lift to it"s first position this will allow you to change the DATE (number) once you get the correct Date, push tje crown back in, NOW! pull the crown out to set the DAY itself and the time. On some watches the crowns first position allows both the day and date to be changed by turning the crown in it"s first position clock wise and counter clock wise.

How to set time, date, and alarm

there should be a manuel online that is downloadable from Bulova. This is the best way to find out how to set it short of taking it to a jeweler.
Generally, with the crown pulled out in different positions the push buttons will change the position of your subdial hands.

Date set

The winding stem of the caravelle has two positions when pulled outward from the case. Pulling it full out lets you set the time. And, by rotating the hands through successive twenty-four hour periods it resets the day of the week. Pulling the stem halfway out allows you to set the month, but only if you rotate the stem in a counterclockwise direction..
