Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

Sony Rear Projection TV - Red tube too strong

I recently recieved a Sony KP 43t70 rear-projection TV. I got it second hand, and because of this and the fact that it is 4 years old, I don't believe I have any kind of warranty on it. My question is this: The red tube is much too strong. White images, especially in stark contrast, come off at a pale pink hue, sometimes very strongly so. The red permeates the picture, essentially. Without replacing the tubes, is there any way, using the settings on the tv, or even manually, that I could turn down the levels of red? I have tried using the standard picture settings, and there is no way that I can get the red to be in balance with the blue and green. Any response greatly appreciated. Remove the front speaker assembly and the small access panel behind it and you will see a small square control assembly with 6 dials on it 3 control the color guns and 3 control the 3 gun focus. Try turning down the red control slightly they will be set up just like the CRTs red green and blue.

Lamp part number

KP-43T70 is a CRT based rear projector and does not use a Lamp like newer LCD/DLP projectors. It uses 3 (Red, Green, Blue) glycol liquid cooled CRT's (like the picture tubes of yesteryear) to produce the image/light as opposed to a Lamp.

These sets have had, unfortunately, bad picture tubes. The gun welds tend to break loose over time.

A steady red light is an indication of a power supply regulation problem.. Its not a job that can be done by a do-it your selfer or an end user. Sorry man those days are done. You should for your health and best interest, seek out a local TV repair peep to assist you with this repair.
