Right click on an empty portion of your desktop, and go to "Properties" at the bottom.

Here you will find the display options for your computer. You will probably see that you have the option to set a new display, or add a display for use in conjunction with your current.

What you need to do is enable your second display "2", as the S-Video, so that the signal goes through to your TV, and then all should work just fine.

You may find that you need to change your resolution settings, as your tv has different dimensions and so on, but that is very easily fixed from within your display settings.

I hope that this has helped to fix your problem, good luck!

Problems some times hooking computer to TV

Before hooking up the laptop to the TV, lower your resolution on your laptop then shut it down. Just for testing purposes I would try 640X480 since you can always change it. Hook up the laptop to the TV and then turn on your laptop. See if it goes into windows with the display showing on the TV. If it does then reboot the laptop and try a few more times. If your consistently getting video then you can play around with the resolutions.
If your still having video issues, try a new video cable. Also update your video drivers to the latest version on your laptop. If the problem still persists update your BIOS to the latest version.
Hopefully that will do it but if not then its an issue with the motheboard.

I bought a component cable so i could hook my laptop to my tv so i can watch movies from my laptop through my tv and i cant figure out how make it work

I'm assuming that your laptop doesn't have component-video outputs, and you bought some kind of adapter cable?

I think that you may just need to tell your laptop where to send the video signal. The default is obviously the built-in screen, but most laptops can also send the video signal to both it's own screen AND the external output; or to the external output only. You usually have to type a combination of keys on your keyboard to switch through the modes.

For example: on my laptop you hold down the FUNC key and then press the F10 key (which also has a screen symbol on it). Check your laptop manual for that.

Some TV's can only accept video output from a computer at a certain resolution (like 1024 x 768). Check your TV manual, but you may have to adjust your laptops resolution.

Finally, since the video signal is not coming from cable or DVD, you will probably have to switch the video input on your TV, so that it knows where to get it's video signal from. This is usually as easy as pressing an INPUT button on your TV remote until you hit the right input, but check your TV manual.

I have toshiba satellite L500D. I cant download any movies or tv shows and when i watch tv from yahoo 7 it stops and starts as does Youtube....PLEASE HELP!!

When downloading videos from sites such as You Tube, the download is known as "streaming video". It fills the buffers on your machine and then displays it on your screen. If your connection is not fast enough, the buffers will empty before the data stream can re-fill them. This produces the stop start situation. The best way to overcome this is to do something else while the video plays, then come back when it's finished and replay it...it will now play ok.
If your connection is slow, then it's likey its timing out during the download of movies or TV shows, stopping the data flow.

Powers up screen lights up with vertical lines of different colors. NO desktop. DVD indicator lit up on keyboard along with Play, Rev and FF indictors, put a movie in and it wont play that either the drive...

Most likely you have had an lcd panel failure. The only way to tell for sure is either hook the laptop up to a tv or an external monitor, if the video chip is good it will send the signal to the external monitor and you can run the computer that way. If you do get a signal on the external, then you need to change out the lcd panel. As far as the dvd, you probably just cannot see that everything is working because the panel has failed.

I'm trying to show movies from my laptop to my tv. I have svideo and rca cables but I cannot get any video. The sound is perfect. Please help!

The laptops video output is toggled by the function key (Fn) + another of the "F" keys on the top of the keyboard. Look for the "F" key that has the shape of a computer screen. Hook your S-video cable up, put the tv on S-video input and hold down the Fn key + the appropriate "F" key to toggle through the options.

Playing movies from external hard drive

Hi rox09
Well you can rip your DVD to any external drive using and third party DVD ripping software ,once you do that you will get a AVI,MPEG and any common fomats your DVD player supports

Inorder to play those files in your DVD player ,you need the check whether your DVD has a USB input port or else if you laptop or computer has a S-video out put and your TV has S-Video input ;you can play directly from your laptop/computer to the TV using a S-video Cable which is available in any Computer shop.
I hope this helps

Movie Files will not display on the TV.

Its quite possible your laptop has lost its association with your TV as a "secondy monitor".

To check this, minimise everything and right click on the desktop and go to Properties. Then navigate to the settings tab. This will show you how many displays it considers itself to have.

Click on number 2 (if visable) and click on extend my windows desktop to this monitor.

You should now be able to go between screens
