I presume is is WS-65905 which is a 1999 model and it may or may not have the self check feature.

Does power light come on and then go off?

How did you read the codes?

No error is usually 1 blink, 2 blinks
You press menu and device for 5 seconds and release both and watch power light for blink code two digit.

If 1,2 something odd is wrong--------Have you examined the set for any sign of GLYCOL leaking from the area of the picture tubes? Remove front speaker grill (pulls out usually) and directly behind it is an inspection plate. Can you try this? If so I will tell you what to look for.
The click is the power relay coming on.

  • mdoctor1955 Sep 16, 2010

I pulled the inspection cove and on crt-b the white strip is yellow the other 2 are white do not
    see and leaking glycol fluid

No, it will be if there on the circuit boards, usually in the first three inches from front of set---the green board to the right (looking from front of set) is the signal micro board---lots of parts soldered to the top of that board---the glycol will appear there in tiny amounts----solder connections that should be bright and shiny will look dull or discolored----it does not take much glycol.

The middle board contains deflection and convergence circuits---damage if a leak above will appear the same depending on how much leaked----this stuff damages leads on parts and may look like model airplane glue-----

You have to look very carefully as even a small amount (drops) will cause problems. If it is there the green board is most likely---middle or other would usually trigger a error code---but not the green board.

I have looked (and I know what to look for) at some of these for several minutes before I saw the damage---solder connections will look dull or even somewhat white, like a powder residue.

Do you have a air compressor? The way we dealt with this in shop was to take board to sink and with very hot water and a small brush wash the glycol off---try to keep it just in area with the damage.

Then with compressed air dry the board completely---we also after this would if warm day put it out on the concrete and let the sun work on it. You are going to have to get it all off and look for any parts with physical damage.

What I further suggest is when you put it back in the set cut a piece of cardboard and place it above that area, put it at a angle so any drips run forward off of the boards.

I know using water sounds ODD---but the glycol is water removable only----The cardboard will allow you to see if the set works.

If it does you have two choices---leave the cardboard in place (under all three tubes in front of boards) or find which tube is leaking, remove and drain it and redo the two seals---not real easy and wear rubber gloves as the glycol is very toxic.

If it is in the area indicated it most likely is the middle tube--no way to tell----small openings in rear corners of the metal shields around the tube have holes---take a paper tower to them to see if any liquid.

Tip

MITSUBISHI PROJECTION DIAGNOSTIC FEATURE

If you have a Mitsubishi rear projection where the model number begins with WS or in some cases VS and the set turns on for a moment (green light comes on and goes off) Do the self check most models made from 1999 through about 2005 have:

When the power light comes on and then goes out, on the front of the set press both the MENU and INPUT buttons at the same time and hold them both in for at least 5 seconds and then release both buttons.

The power light will blink a 2 digit error code and repeat it at least 5 times.

This does not apply to sets with a WD model number, they have different codes.

The most common error will be 2 blinks, 2 blinks- a pause and then it will repeat it for a total of at least 5 times.

To get it to repeat this--you have to unplug the set, try to turn it on again and repeat the process.

The error codes are to try to narrow down where the problem is.

If you get one, you can post a question in the Free section here attention:
SD TECH AND I WILL TELL YOU WHAT IT MEANS AND MAY BE ABLE DEPENDING ON THE ERROR TO TELL YOU HOW TO FIX IT.

Mitsubishi was one of the first to have this feature so techs could with ease know where to look for whatever was wrong--a time saver and several other companies followed suit.

Again: Post either a free question or a Premium question here Attention: SD TECH and I or some other expert will be happy to assist you.
