Your Mac can't recognize the 320 because it's formatted as NTFS and Mac uses Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. You need to install one or two apps on the Mac; Crossover or Parallels, and then install the Windows software on the Mac you need to read and use the files.

At that point, some files which share file types in Windows and Mac could be transfered (jpeg, mp3-4, etc.)

You'll learn maybe more than you wanted to,

Good Luck,

Marcus

Windows xp not recognizing my external hard drive

The most likely reason you cannot see your hard drive on your Windows computer but can on your Mac, is that the drive has been formatted for GPT which is only supported on Windows Vista or 7 or above, not on XP.

See the Microsoft article on GPT here and FAQ's on GPT here

The most current driver for this product is already included in the Windows XP Operating System. Currently there are no updated drivers available.
If the driver did not work, try to use the IBM Proprinter or Epson LQ driver.

Brand new, not recognized by hardrive

Try plugging it into the back ports of your computer haven't already. The clicking is from the reading head not finding zero on the platter, which means its either a bad drive or a lack of power. So try the back ports first if you haven't already, because they usually supply more power than any front ports. It also depends on how old your computer is, but in general if it has XP on it it should have enough juice to power the drive.

Hi,

First let me let out a LMAO to there website. Although the Windows and Mac operating systems are still somewhat different in how they work, the computer you're running OSX on IS a standard "IBM-Clone" or PC and therefore and potential hardware issues are identical regardless of wether it is running Mac or Windows.

The Blue light blinking generally means one of only two things, one the hard drive is active and currently reading or writing files, or two, it has a hardware problem. The fact the light is on usually means you have a good power supply but there are numerous other problems that could cause this.

If you just bought the drive and haven't got any data that is only on this drive, take it back to the store you bought it at and ask to have it replaced as a faulty drive. If you do have any crucial data on the drive already, respond back and I will be happy to offer advice on how to retrieve it.
