I don't think there's a problem with the driver, try checking the sound folder in "control panel" you might find the solution there.

Audio service not running

Hello.
It's a possible problem with the driver or the sound card may bedisabled. To check if the sound card is disabled or drivers not installed,
1. Right click on "My Computer" select "Properties"

2. Click "Device Manager"

3. From the list, you should see a "Sound Controller" and if you click on the drop down arrow beside it, you should see the audio driver installed(ex. High Definition Audio Device... audio driver name may vary depending on the brand of the laptop).

4. Right click on the sample "High Definition Audio Device" then select Properties. If it says device is working properly then there shouldn't be any problem with your audio.

** If the Sound Controller is NOT installed properly you need to download the Audio drivers from the support site of your Dell computer,http://support.dell.com , be sure to select the correct model of your laptop and operating system of your computer.

Once you have downloaded and installed the drivers, Audio should work fine not unless it is the hardware itself that is damaged.

**Also don't forget to check if there are other external audio output devices connected to your computer, please do test if working properly.

~~Hope this helps. Glad to be of service.~~

I have no sound. maybe my computer has been muted

Check that sound drivers are ok as follows
  • Open your start menu (right-click on the "Start" button and choose "Explore"), and find the "My Computer" icon. Right-click on it and choose "Properties" from the submenu. Click on the "Hardware" tab and then the "Device Manager" button.
  • Expand the "Sounds, video, and game controllers" heading to find your sound card. The name will depend on what sound card is installed on your PC. It will most likely have a name containing "audio." It should look something similar to the example above. You'll know immediately if there is a major driver error because an exclamation point (!) will show over the card's icon.
  • Double-click on the name of the sound card to open a new window. In the new properties window click on the "Drivers" tab. If there is no "Drivers" tab then you chose the wrong sound device. Go back and try again. On the "Drivers" tab, click the "Driver Update" button. Follow the Wizard's onscreen instructions to update your driver. You can also contact the manufacturer of your PC for the most recent audio drivers. They can usually be found online.
if the drivers were OK, proceed as follows

HP dv6-1230 has locked the volume/mute button and i can't hear a sound from it

Right click on My Computer, go to properties, hardware tab, then select device manager, check if there is any Yellow colour highlighted thing is there. If so, then check what it is. If it is showing any thing related to sound re-install the sound driver. If nothing is in yellow, then select sound, video and game controller in the same screen Check if any thing is highlighted in yellow. If so re-install the sound driver. It will work. After all these is still problem is there, then re-install the operating system.
To confirm first, go to control panel, select sound and audio devices, if it shows no audio devices then there is a problem in the driver. If not problem in Operating system. If still problem is there plz do let me know.

Volume isn't working at all! Tried adjusting volume, turning mute on and off, and it still isn't working!

Hi, best thing to check is the drivers, goto control panel, system, device manager and look for any yellow or red symbols beside any of the devices, if there is it probably just need the drivers installed if it aint probably the sound on the motherboard is gone and would suggest a external soundcard as it will cost alot to fix or replace the motherboard.

Hope it helps

Microphone

This might help. Goto the device manager and delete the device. Then reboot. It should be detected and reinstalled automatically. If it doesn't, the hardware is broken.

Other things to check are in the volume control. goto properties, recording, and see if the mic is selected and up.
