Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 1000 Typewriter

Language Problem Seems to be stuck with the light on "lang", so not typing correct charaters. I've tried holding down the code button and the "L", but that doesn't seem to have an affect. Any thoughts

How to remove code KYBD099

Take a look at the "L" key, if it has the word "lang" in green print at the bottom of the key, try holding down the "code" key while pressing the "L" key. This will take it out of language mode. This mode is only used if you have a foreign language keyboard.

Change keyboard mode. Not typing correct letters

Hold down the "code" key, the one to the left of the spacebar that says "CODE" on it, and hit the "L" key (the one that says (Lang) on it. Should be back to normal.

I have a Wheelwriter 6 and the Lang light is on, (I don't know what I did) How do I get it off?

I believe you push the language key while holding down the code key or just push the language key by itself.

Type writer is only typing special charaters

sounds like the code button is stuck down or the contacts are stuck together inside the keyboard. If turning the machine off and back on doesn't correct the problem you will need to take it to a repair shop.

When trying to type on typewriter, I am getting different letters than what I typed.

You may be in the language mode, the lang light will be lit in the R. side Code "L" will turn it off.
If that's not the problem Hold the code, press and hold the "L" key, release the code type 001, release the "l" key this will force the T/W into USA keyboard. If that solves the problem your keyboard is failing. Contact Goe. Beyers Co. @ 800-392-8085.

Strange letters

Sounds more like the keyboard is going bad. If the printwheel was working fine before, replacing it won't fix this kind of problem.
Also check to see if the light besides " Lang", on the right of the keyboard is lit. If it is hold down the CODE key and hit the key with Lang printed on it. I think its the "L" key.
Another possibility is the keyboard is going bad.

Language light?

Depending on the age of the T/W hold code and press either X or L the lang should be on it in green.

Types wrong characters

If the typewriter is typing letters or symbols that you do not type, it is usually because the Pitch Selector is set to "PS". The pitch selector is on the left hand side and has the numbers 10,12, 15 and PS. Place the selector on 10 or 12 and you will be OK.
Also, check to make sure your printwheel is installed properly. Remove it and put it back in to make sure.

Another thing you can try is to clear the memory. To do this, turn off the machine. Place a piece of paper in the machine sideways. Hold down the MAR REL key and while holding it down, turn on the machine. Wait 2 seconds, then let go of the key. The typewriter will start typing. Shut the machine off after about 15 seconds. Then turn it on as usual. This will clear the typewriter's memory and unexpected charaters should not happen anymore.
