I have the same problem with my acer 5102 wlmi and I still have insurance, which I cannot renew due to COMPUSA closing all stores. I have no idea why it does this and I am not opening something I cannot fix.
    I wonder why this happens??

Hi,

I completely agree with Benimurs solution.Did you try unscrewing the laptop from back and remove the Ram as well as if there is also an other external video card remove it and reinsert it.If this doesn't help then you will have to get this serviced.

If you need anymore help let me know.

SOURCE: computer screen

Hi,

Offhand I would suspect video and/or its drivers. Pls try starting in "Safe Mode" and determine if problem persists. If no, then you may need to reload/update your video drivers, if yes, then you have a problem with the video card (hardware). I believe an Acer Aspire 5100 uses ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100 chipset. Am no just sure if it is an add-on card or integrated into the motherboard. Perhaps what you can do is to open the panels underneath the laptop and verify if the different cards including the memory are seated correctly.

Additionally, a post by Mark_Webber, another FixYa expert, addressed a slightly similar concern with another Acer Aspire 5100 here. It might be of additional information. This page might be interesting if not likewise informative.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Freezing then blank screen

Have you tried pressing F8 on boot-up and log into safe mode under administrator, no password, and right click on any empty space on the desktop, left click on properties, left click on settings, select a lower resolution,( e.g. 1024X768 ) select apply, select ok, reboot, log in as normal
