Question about Dishwashers
Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. What happens over time is the motor pump assy starts a minor leak and the water drips from the stem seal straight down into the motor. The motor bearings eventually corrode and then the bearings lock up of corrosion in the motor armature cause the motor windings to lose thier shellac coating so the motor either overheats or shorts causing the electrical burning smell and the resulting circuit breaker trip.
There is of course the possibility of internal wiring chaffing, the heating element or water valve solenoid failure that could also cause a short.
The most common failure is the motor pump due to water intrusion. The initial leak is small so bu the time the home owner ever notices any leak the damage has already been done in the form of the motor pump assy.
Thanks for choosig FixYa.

There are couple of things it could be...the most likely is that the motor has gone bad...they will smoke first and then trip the breaker...if you get under the dishwasher you will be able to follow your nose right to the motor is that is the problem...
The other possibility would be that the heating element went bad and melted something before it shorted and tripped the breaker...that to your should be able to see rather easily in the bottom of your dishwasher...
At either rate you should be able to smell the problem or see the burn marks...

This may be the smell of Varnish used in motor winding. When we turn on the machine it gets heated a little bit resulting in a burning electrical smell.

Hi friend, thank you for your post!
I understand that your Frigidaire dishwasher is giving off an electric burning smell and you are seeing smoke coming out of the door vent. It could possibly be an issue with your control panel or door vent, both have electrical components inside of them. Since it could be either one of these underlying issues I would recommend having a technician come out to your home and diagnose and repair the dishwasher. Hope this helps. -Matt
