I have a craftsman 18 inch chain saw that will not start, I replaced the spark plug.replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, am getting a spark through the plug, poured gas in the plug hole, reinserted plug and plug wire, pulled the starter rope and engine did not start. The saw has set for a long period of time with gas in it. It has run previously but when shut off and tried to restart it would not start. My e-mail address is wing358745@embarqmail.com

SOURCE: 1991 toyota 3L V6 Overfueling, raw fuel pouring out exhaust pipes

The valve cover gasket change is related only to the extent of needeing to remove something else . There is the fuel pressure regulator and the MAF SENSOR talks to the ECU telling the computer how much fuel is needed for proper mixture of thre air passing into the intake. It is the first sensor in the intake duct coming out of the sir filter. Make sure all the injectors are secure in wiring connection and look around for any other that had to be removed. All plugs mean it isn't just one injector. Unplug and replug the MAF. cHECK THE THROTTLE POSITIO SENSOT. iT RIGHT THERE where the fuel likage is attached.

My craftsman chain saw 18 will not start

The 3 things needed for an engine to run:
1. Compression (Cylinder, Piston, rings, gaskets)
2. Ignition (Spark plug, ignition module/coil)
3. Fuel (Fuel lines, Carburetor, gaskets, bad fuel)

More than Likely I would start by checking fuel related since that is usually the biggest offender (fuel lines broken/dry rotted, bad carb.)

Seeing a lot of fuel line problems due to ethanol. Make sure your fuel lines and primer lines are in tact. If the fuel line has broken, you may also need to clean out the inlet screen in the carburetor which can also become clogged.

Cannot start husq 340 have spark but no combustion even if put gas in spark plug hole. have new spark plug

The engine may be flooded--take the plug out, turn the saw upside down, and pull the starter rapidly a few times with the throttle full on. If flooded, a fuel spray will likely come out of the plug hole. Make sure the ignition is OFF when doing this--you don't need a fuel fire! Is the spark at the plug blue and snappy (plug gap set to 0.020")? Replace the plug and see if it will run. Make sure the air filter is clean. Hope this helps!

Check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Check for proper chain oiling by running the saw at speed for several moments with the bar tip near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil. Hope this helps!

Try removing the fuel cap for a moment, then try restart. If ok, check the fuel vent for plugging. Check the fuel filter for plugging. Inspect the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Check for spark when it stops--it may be the ignition module failing when hot. Check for sawdust and dirt plugging the ventilation system--blow it out with compressed air. Does the engine 4-stroke at speed when not cutting, but does 2-stroke when cutting? Make sure the chain is being oiled while running. Hope this helps!

Craftsman chainsaw 18" 42cc doesn't start

Remove the spark plug and test for spark. If nothing, try a new plug set to 0.020" gap. If ok, put a small mount of fuel mix in the plug hole and try to start. If you get several pops, then check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for rot or damage. Make sure to use fresh fuel premix (40:1) using modern synthetic saw oil in it's own can and shake thoroughly just before filling each time. If you got no spark in the first test, expose the flywheel and ignition module. Remove the wire from the module that goes to the ignition switch and check for spark. If still nothing, replace the module using a thin business card for a gap gauge between the module poles and the flywheel magnets. If you did get spark, then investigate the ignition switch and wire for possible grounding. Hope some of this helps!

Craftsman chain saw. Won't restart after running for long time.

First check is for spark at the plug when it won't fire--it should be blue and snappy with a fresh plug set for 0.020" gap. If not, then remove the flywheel side cover, turn the flywheel magnets to underneath the ignition module. Use a thin business card for a gap gauge and insert it into the space between the magnets and the module poles--loosen the screws holding the module to allow the module to stick to the magnets, then re-tighten the screws. Recheck for spark. If now ok, try to start the engine. If this made no difference, then replace the ignition module and use the same install as before. If you originally got good spark, place little fuel mix in the plug hole and retry start--it should at least pop several times. If so, check the fuel filter, air filter and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of all fuel lines. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are all tight. Finally, the carburetor lower diaphragm may be hard or cracked. Make sure the saw body is not getting overly hot-- it may need cleaning with compressed air to recover proper cooling. Hope some of this helps!

I have this saw and really like it. Does the the primer seem to work? Most problems on these saws can be traced back to cracked fuel lines. Either tank to primer, primer to carb, or carb return back to tank. I would recommend it the saw it more than 3 years old to replace all the fuel lines. Total cost about $5. Buy your fuel line at Ace Hardware.

Describe your Husqvarna "Chain Saw -

Remove the spark plug and test for spark. If ok, try some starting fluid in the plug hole, install the plug, and try to start. If it runs a short time, it is not getting fuel. Check fuel lines including inside the tank. Clean or replace the air filter. If this saw is fairly old, the carburetor probably needs a re-kit and cleaning. Does it have good compression? Check the muffler for plugging. Make sure the fuel/oil mix is fresh. Good luck!
