Replace your PSU then test all leads that are attached to your hard drive sounds like a faulty lead of some sorts then
try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty because a computer has to have an end to the circuit any fulty leads will lead to no boot up
good luck

Take out dvd-rw drive, wifi card, hdd and check usb ports for bent pins. Try booting to cmos with old memory. If this doesn't work, try new memory and cmos boot. If laptop boots to cmos, motherboard is probably okay. If not you may have MB problem. If it boots to cmos, add removed items back one at a time.

How to troubleshoot laptop startup problems

When your laptop lights momentarily, but almost immediately shuts down, try removing the battery and booting the unit with the battery removed. If there are any problems with any devices such as the battery, fan, ram, wireless card, dvd or hard drive the unit will not boot. You should also remove the cd, ram, wireless card and the HDD. With those items removed if there are no other problems your unit will boot as far as the BIOS and then prompt with a message saying there is no operating system. This would eliminate the motherboard as the problem. If your unit does not boot to the prompt you have a fan problem or a motherboard problem. At this point you would have to remove the bottom cover and try to boot while watching the fan for movement. No movement, replace fan. Movement, replace motherboard. It it does boot to the prompt try reinstalling the HDD and booting. If it won't boot then the HDD is bad and would need replaced and formated with the original factory discs. If it boots with the HDD, try installing the ram and booting. Same procedure until you find the bad part. This will take some time but should narrow the problem to the bad part.

Thinkpad R51 will not boot

Try remove ALL media DVD.CD,USB,etc. Shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Do you get anything on the monitor? Can you access the restore/recovery software? Open the Memory bay and reseat the Memory, open the HDD bay reseat the HDD, Reboot. If no change remove HDD, test, replace if necessary. Have you changed the CMOS battery?,

Dear sir. my laptop hp pavilion dv5, its comming

Power drain would be a better solution in this case.
1.first shut down the comp
2.unplug the charger
3. remove the battery
and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery. After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer

Tecra M3 won't boot, hdd light comes on then off.

The hard disk can be installed in another computer, but it won't boot up and run unless the computer is the same make and model with the same devices as the previous computer.
If it is not then you need to do a fresh Windows install to get a working computer.
What you can do as an alternative is to install the hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

Hi, Does it start to boot from windows and then shut off or is it before windows? Try removing the HDD and see if it will still shut down. If it does not shut then with the HDD removed, then the OS on the HDD is corrupted. Thanks, Mike

Help to start please

It's possible the power cord is defective only giving enough power for a partial boot. I would try another power cord.
If it's not the powercord then it would definitely be the motherboard not taking the power and distributing it correctly and you would have to replace it.

No boot - constant fan

Update from my immediate post today: I've looked at other post that is suggesting memory or battery problem. To my surprise, after removing one memory from bank2 of DIMM, the PC came back to life! Whenever the second bank has either memory stick in it, it will stuck. So I ends up with half the memory, but get my system back. Not sure how long this will last though.

I Had similar history as the initial post: runs OK, and started random shut down 2 days before final stall. I am putting back my HDD and system, should be working, for now at least.
