Make sure the aperture ring is set to "A", the mode dial to "P", the ISO to "auto ISO" with a range of about 100-400, the white balance to "auto WB", and focussing set to autofocus, not manual.

My d40 has a image in viewfinder, will not take picture.

What lens are you using with the D40? Is it an AF-S lens? And is the Mirror Lockup on? Chech the Custom Settings menu. If mirror lockup is on, turn it off.

Time on my Nikon D40 is incorrect.

Being that they changed when the daylight savings time happens everything doesn't adjust the new time accordingly. Go to your menu and scroll to the setup menu. Scroll down to world time and click ok. If you scroll down to date and click ok you can change the time there. Press up or down to change the date and/or time and right and lift to move to the next box. Hope this helps.

DROPPED NIKON d40, now my pictures are all dark

First u have to reset the camera,go through the menu and select reset and yes. the camera will take default settings.Try now.

Reset the camera opening the connector cover.

You try with a different compatible lens .If works we have to change the lens.

Remove the battery and get fully charged .Operate all switches for some clicks. then put the battery and try.

Then u have to consult a mechanic.

You probably have "bracketing" turned on. In your menu settings, search for bracketing and make sure it is off.
