Question about GE GSD53 Dishwasher

1 Answer

I have a GE black panel dishwasher. I am having trouble cleaning the panel. It looks like cleaner has dripped down it but no matter what I use it never looks any better. The panel sounds like hard plastic and is in perfectly good shape. It just looks bad. I've tried soap and water and other cleaners but nothing helps.

There is a cheap way to replace the panel and that is on applianceart.com. They have replacement panels and covers, and even stainless steel.

Dishes won't come clean ... there are black and brown particles on them.

First off check the salt level in the machine then check there is cleaner in the compartment. Then go buy a small bottle of dishwasher cleaner (about 2-5 ponds) Follow all instructions and run the machine on hottest wash....Hope this helps

After cycle is complete my dishwasher doesn't fully drain water.

If there is not enough water, the dishes would not get cleaned. This could be caused by a partially closed water shut-off valve (located under the sink), or a faulty dishwasher water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side).

Also, There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Make sure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm.

**Water temperature Note***

To get the best results, the water has to be at 120 degrees Fahrenheit when entering the dishwasher.

Concerning the Film(slimy looking substance).

This problem occurs due to excessive calcium build up inside the dishwasher. Try cleaning you dishwasher using a dishwasher cleaner. There are a few out there, Try Dishwasher Magic.

Leaks when being unloaded

I may not have the full solution here, but to avoid (expensive) sub-floor damage, I recommend you do the following.  Assuming that the water is not coming from some dripping between the opened door at the hinge....
-Remove the kick plate that is in the bottom, front of the dishwasher.
Use a flashlight to look for wet flooring.  Run the dishwasher with the kick plate removed, watching for leaks/dripping.  It is possible for a leak to seep under the floor.  If leaking is found, do not ignore it.  Pull the dishwasher, fix the leak or replace the dishwasher.  Remove the first layer of sub-floor under the dishwasher, looking for deeper damage.
You should probably do the same with the carpeted area.  Pull the carpet back and decide if the sub-floor needs to be replaced.  A flooring expert should probably inspect.
Sorry to be such an alarmist, but I have been around floor damage that was unnoticed and ignored.

you probably need a new control panel. The panel isn't sealed to the face everywhere, and food or water runs down the internal cable.
my panel burnt up. replacing it fixed the problem.

I caulked it in with clear caulk to prevent a recurrence.
