I tried everything and eventually figured this out.  Do this!

Enable DHCP set the start ip to 192.168.1.100, and remove any static IP address on your xbox 360 (have it automatically detect connections)
Set the MTU to 1364.
enable UPnP.
if you are using wrt-dd (if you aren't, you should be)  setup QoS so xboxlive has premium priority.

And you have hit the ground running.  Even microshats own website wont' help you fix this stupid problem.

I promiss this will work ;)

Our Xbox was using a Static IP. We changed from manual IP (static) to automatic (DHCP) and now it shows NAT mode is Open. Problem Solved.

Your xbox should of had a disk with it to run your network settings and store them on a memmory card the properties as long as you have your network setup disk save the properties to memmory car of xbox and then you shouldnt have no more problems
but if you need to proceed further you need to set router settings manually
in internet explorer search bar type in this code here 192.168.0.1 this is your fixed router ip this will bring up the screen for router protocol
it will ask for name and password unless you changed the password and name it should still be normal
type=admin for name
type=password for password this will give info on your routers and specs

I need to make my Nat type open instead of moderate. How do I do that?

I just opened my NAT type to play xbox live...using a SURFboard Motorola.
And this site helped me alot:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:d_5pu90czsoJ:news.softpedia.com/news/Guide-to-Opening-NAT-Xbox-360-71775.shtml+nat+type+xbox+360+open&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

but watch this video first, cause it will help out allot too:

With these guides, and bit of web reading from other peoples FAQ's.. I did it.

The guide you need will depend on what modem/router you have.

Good Luck

make sure the security settings on router is WEP-Personal. I don't know what you have for internet but Dial-up, DSL, and satellite internet will not get NAT 1.

How do i change my NAT connection from moderate to open

This one is simple. Find the IP address that your Xbox is assigned by your router, then put it into the DMZ. This also goes for PS3 users who are having trouble with internet access.

Change NAT to open

You need to open all the ports for the xbox live. The NAT of that router model cannot be configured to open. Its just a simple NAT for internet connection.

Ok kids... all you hve to do is log in to your belkin 54g at http://192.168.2.1

Find out what ip address your xbox is using and then Click on the DMZportion of your settings on the left hand side of the page.

Enter the xbox's ip address and click the enable box.
Click apply.

Your NAT will now be OPEN!
