Question about Sony Video Cameras
First check to see if the Ieee 1934 port (iLink) is enabled in the computer ...in case the camera is not seen at all.. for that ..you have to go to BIOS (for pc) by pressing del on start for pc..and F2 for laptop ...(F10 for HP computers) ..and once in there ..choose the feature called optimal factory defaults ..confirm the choice ..and save the changes by pressing F10 and enter ..
If this was the only issue ..the IEEE port should be active now..and things working ..
Remember that usually for Sony the drivers are in the windows already ..but if you have a driver disk that came with the camera ..it is best to insert and run it anyway ..
To check that the port is ok ...go to device manager by right click on My computer ..than properties../hardware/device manager ..
with the camera on ...look for it into the list ...if you do not see it ..click right on the computer ..and choose scan for new hardware ..this should bring it in sight ...even if it has no driver .....in which case..will be unknown device in a ieee port ..and all you need is to insert the driver and install it ..
For mac..you probably need the driver for sure ..cause the Fire wire port on mac will not see it without ..
In the end ..from my knowledge ..if you are connecting it by a fire wire port you should not need a driver for Sony ..but ..even if you activate the port ..you might need a fire wire driver for the Fire-wire card itself..if itself ..so if it is a on board port ..look on the motherboard's driver CD for the port's driver ..

Here is what someone said in justanswers.com:
Connect a firewire cable to the camcorder's DV port and the Mac's firewire port.
They also added that the camera cannot be recognized through the usb port.
Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.
