well, this issues it seems formatter issues..and sometimes its causes on relay between primary / secondary having crudded contack or unable to switch to secondary section under on mainboard.
note : scanner function, formatter or usb interface and high voltage ground were connected on secondary circuit.
I guess there is a problem with the base station. Let me tell my story:
I got a 4820 scanner with 2020 base. All worked fine till I experimented with scanning images. After a few images (which I cannot retrieve/receive properly due to lack of software) the scanner seems dead. From time to time a short buzz sounds when triggered, but no light or else.
So I bought another 4820, a slightly different model. Seems to work fine but has to be paired with the base to get the data. Now after pairing this scanner shows the same issues as my first and refuses to scan.
I installed QiuckView and HSM-USB-Serial-Driver on a virtual machine at my MAC to flash firmware to base and scanners. But the base device does not show up in the program (althought it is shown in the USB device table). Maybe I can try on a native WindowsPC ...
I have had this problem. It has given me hours of frustatation. It would start the scanning process then it would stop or hang at any point along the process. I did the usb thing, no good. What I found was the warmer the day got the sooner it got buggy. I dont blame the scanner, I am pretty sure the problem lies in the PC. The PC heat doesnt seem to affect any other programs, or not that I can tell. It is only when scanning. It also seems that that the more things I add like roc and gem the sooner it gets buggy. Sometimes if I turn these off and it will run a bit more but it will eventually not scan at all. It will all be good after I turn it all off and let it cool down. I have let the scanner cool down before trying again while leaving the computer on but it still stops while scanning. I scan my slides singularly and from photshop. This does not affect the bugginess. I dont use ice on my kodachromes as it seems to get buggy and chops out power lines. I use a soft puffy brush from a camera shop to clean the slide. I have some issues with flairing but only on a few slides. I turn down the analog gain helps only a tiny bit. I try to fix it in photoshop.
you may need tore-install the video driver. May have been a windows update which messed with the driver.. just a guess.
The part of only a portion of the screen being shown indicates that the settings in the bios may have been changed. If that's the case, get back tome.
Otherwise, the video card may be crapping out on it. I've had 2 or 3 of these units do that.
