Why does my sony tv only shows green picture

You probably have a bad optical engine. See a local repair shop. Tv is an excellent product made in USA. Where are you going to find that today. A local repairman can replace your optical engine with a rebuilt one.

I need to replace the optical engine on my wd82838

The engines now are all rebuilt---they do come with (from MItsubishi) photos and step by step instructions--Some brackets and other items on the old engine need to be transferred to the new or rebuilt engine--a lot of screws on these sets--maybe 50 before you get to the engine--do you have some specific question? Not for the faint of heart if never done it before.

HI: This is an indication of a bad optics engine that need to be replaced. The LCD's inside the unit are going bad. The only way to repair this is to replace the Optics engine. You can check for a new engine at they have rebuilt engines for very low cost.

Blue dots in screen . does that mean the lamp is going ?

I dont know of a good way to tell people bad news. The problem with the blue dots is expensive. A part called the optical block is failing. In general, the optical block takes the red green and blue pictures from the little lcd screens and puts everything togther perfectly. This requires several mirrors, filters, lcds, and parts that I dont even know the names of.

Buying a brand new optical block is a 1000 to 3000 dollar thing. To have the block rebuilt is about 350 dollars.

Sony has been trying to make the customers who purchased these tv's happy by providing extended warrentys, or giving them a special deal on a similar sized new LCD tv.

I would try to complain to sony and see what you can get accomplished. If you do opt to repair the optical block the odds are that it will happen again in a few years. Ebay and the chicago craigs list are where I have seen the guys who are capable of rebuilding those blocks.

I am sorry for the bad news.

KDS-R70XBR2, purchased 2006. Bad optical block. ...

This is not illegal. If you were purchasing the part outright, the core charge would be included in the cost of the part and then you would be able to keep it. Not sure why you would want the part anyway, but most replacement parts do have a core charge. This is true for automotive, appliance, and many other industries. Also, just so you know, the optical block that Sony is providing you will be far superior to the original unit. The color performance and optical block life were improved greatly with the revisions Sony made to these units. Sony is the only LCOS manufacture that actually addressed and corrected the problems that occured with this type of display. You should let them do what they need to to get your TV back into working order.

I recently replaced my lamp for my sony wega set, October 20th, and today started to see a slight purple bluish 'cast' 1/4'' high and about 12''s wide at the bottom of my screen.

Hello: The Blue LCD has failed. This unit has three small LCD screens inside the optics engine. This problem will get worse as time passes and will spread even more. The only way to resolve your issue is to have the optics engine replaced. Fortunely optics engines are fairly cheap these days as televisions become more advanced. A good place to start looking for one is http://www,
Just in case you don't know what one looks like the picture on the first page of this site is a Sony optics engine. These engines are either rebuilt one to ones taken out of working sets that had bad or broken screens, and they do come with warranties.

My KDF-60WF655 has a green tinge to picture

Sony extended the warranty on there optical blocks because of problems like this, unfortunately the extension ended in Dec. '08. With some digging you could find more info on this but I don't think Sony will help any more. You could however try having your optical block rebuilt instead of buying a new one, should save you hundreds. Good luck!

Blue haze in picture

Sorry guys the news is not good. The Optics or light engine must be changed or rebuilt. The lamp has destroyed a filter (glass element) inside. You must remove the optics and send it out to be rebuilt. Not a do it yourself type repair.
