Question about Iomega Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I believe the area where the cord is plugged into the external hard drive has been damaged. The light no longer comes on and I therefore cannot get the data up on my computer screen :( Is this at all fixable or did I manage to lose all of the data I have on my external hard drive?

If the socket is damaged you can purchase a new hard drive enclosure off the net for just a few pounds. All you need to do is up plug the leads from your faulty drive, open it up and locate it into the new enclosure. You will need to know what type of drive you have before you order the enclosure, it could be 2.5" or 3.5" - ide or sata.

My verbatim external hard drive has stopped working. I plugged it in to a computer at work which cam up with "power surge" the light no longer comes on and it is not being recognised in my system device...

Disassemble the external drive and install the hard drive in a pc or place in a generic external drive you can purchase without a drive inside, then you can get access to those files again. The External drive interface has failed not the drive itself.

My external drive no longer shows that power is going through and therefore not accessible . what could be the problem?

If it is powered over USB, try changing the USB plug to another port. If powered on DC, power supply is corrupt. If powered over USB and alternate port not fixing it, try replacing the USB cord.

When plugged into the USB, SimpleTech Mini 250 will not come on

Did the light ever come on, or is this a new drive?
How old is the system? (It appears to require a power cord for USB 1.1, but not 2.0.)
If it worked in the past, as long as you have the same type of connectors (A, B, mini) on the cord ends, any USB cord should work. Just swap it out.

Acomdata external HD not read. Clicking sound.

Try taking it out of the casing and putting it into another external hard drive case. That is if you can, if its making a clicking noise it probably means your hard drive went bad or it means its not getting enough power to run make sure all the cords are hooked up tight. I had that problem once the hard drive wasn't getting enough power and i had to mess with it on the inside to make it have enough power. I'm not saying take the hard drive apart im saying take the casing off it and check the inside cords to see if they are tight enough. If that doesn't work leave a message and ill try to help again.

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working. When I plug the power in the light only comes on temporarily therefore i can't use it. Have I lost all my saved data?

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working. There is a chance that you can recover data using a USB to IDE or SATA Adapter Cable to recover your data they cost about $30 if you cant get hard drive to power with adapter chances are it has crashed there are places that can get data off hard drive but they are very pricey hope this helps.

Dvr no longer recognizes hard drive

Try switching around some wires.
If that doesn't work then it might be damaged.
I suggest plug it into another computer to see if it still works. Find out if it's the hard drive or the computer.

Lacie 1tb external hard drive into ps3 is not regconised

I have the same issue, however with my verbatim 500g its ok. i believe it is because the lacie is a desktop external and therefore is compatable with windows xp and 7 alone.
Verbatim is a "portable" external hard drive which makes it compatible with several different systems. I would suggest returning it, I just formatted my old verbatim harddrive and set up mediaasharing. Through my router. You can actually route the lacie harddrive by going to my computer and right click the icon. Next go to share with; advanced settings and allow all. Then when you turn your ps3 on search for media servers... I would suggest to google media server for ps3 to get it all seet up. GOOD LUCK

640 GB WD element hard drive has no power

Try it on a different USB port or on a different computer - is this hard drive powered via a mains cable ? If so is that plugged in and switched on as well ?
Also does the hard drive have an on off switch at the back or on it anywhere that needs turning on ?
Does this hard drive have a firewire port or another way of connecting to it ?
