I am using ON-Q RJ45 jacks on the other end of the CAT5e cable and my tester showed pairs 1&2 and 3&4 reversed when using the above diagram. I had to swap Orange&Orange/white pair with the green&green/white pair to correct the problem Thus:
1 White/green Blue
2 Green Orange
3 White/orange Black
4 Blue Red
5 White/Blue Green
6 Orange Yellow
7 White/Brown Brown
8 Brown White

We re booted the computer and have to use a usb

Not sure what the problem is, but from what i am reading i am suprised that anything worked at all. A modem jack in your computer is for telephone lines, and the cable modem needs a cat 5 network cable as well as a ethernet card attatched to your computer. ethernet card in your computer cat5 cable runs from the card to the cable modem. Magic jack requires a usb connection as well as a broadband connection to work.

I've got a wgr614 and I'm trying to hook it up to my laptop. I know the pin number but I don't know the user name

94cd7a7.gif

Since you stated you are attempting to ( "hook" it up to my laptop )
you are essentialy telling me that you are attempting to connect your laptop up to the router using cat5 cable.

for a cat5 cable connection
1. connect the cable to port 1 of the router , NOT THE ( connect to cable modem port )
2. connect the other end of the cable to your notebook
3. boot up your notebook

for a wireless connection from your laptop to the router
you will need to follow the proceedures for connecting to a wireless network

as shown here on youtube.

We're using an Acer 40x max tower, and using a cat5 cable for the internet. The problem is that we can't find the cat5 port on the tower.

Cat5 or ethernet port is a oversized phone jack to put it simply. You may need to purchase this PCI ethernet card and install it of you do not see it installed.
Hope this helped!

Network cable stopped being recognized

rj45 (cat5) sockets have 8 internal tensioned wire prongs, (six are used for cat5 ethernet)
use weakens the tension and they can be dislodged sideways vertically or disconnected from the internal cabling. Likewise solder connnections to the motherboard fail.
a possible fix is to power down the pc, and with a jewellers screwdriver ensure that all the internal wires are present, straight, aligned, and protruding across the opening.
If there are missing wires(broken) then the rj45 socket shoould be replaced at your local pc store, (not walmart)a796c91.jpg

Is it possible to connect cat5 cable to phone jack - from the router to the printer

No, Cat5 and phone jacks are purposefully different sizes. They have no compatibility.

If you want to share a printer over a network and it doesn't directly have a cat5 port (most don't) your best option is to set up a basic home network using the wizard, make sure that FILE AND PRINTER SHARING is switched on, and then share the printer as a resource on the machine it's already linked to. Then as long as that machine is turned on (even if it's not doing anything) the printer will be available to other machines on the network, even if those other machines are communicating wirelessly.

HOW DO I CORRECTLY WIRE THIS WALLPLATE TO MY CAT5e CABLE AND PHONE LINE. WHAT COLOR BELONGS TO WHAT?

http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/ethernetcables.html

this link covers proper pinout for cat 5 cabling. (RJ45). A phone line is RJ11. You can run ethernet cable through a wall and terminate it at a wall plate designed for ethernet (not a standard phone wall plate). You can't use the RJ11 cable currently in the walls for ethernet.

I have a cat5e network cable i am hooking to rj45 flush mounted wall jack the wire color is not the same?

Either your wallmount is not correctly crimmped according to the standards or your cable is not correctly crimmped according to the standards. So its better you crimp the cable and fix the R.J 45 connector in the sequence given herewith.colour coding of the cable:-
1-oranage white
2-orange
3-White green
4-Blue
5- White blue
6-Green
7-White brown
8-Brown
The same Sequence should be at the wallmount and at the R.J 45 connector.
