Question about Linksys Computers & Internet

2 Answers

We had to upgrade our satellite modem to HN9000 (HughesNet). Before we had a HN7000S. I access my office by VPN, or did. Since the upgrade I cannot connect. I have tried everything, I have tried everything. We did not upgrade our Linksys wireless router. Is that the problem? Has anyone else been successful at setting up their VPN with this modem? What do I need to do?

You did not pay attention to the fact that I have satellite, not DSL. I not a tech person. I don't understand all of the language. I asked if the router could be tne reason the VPN no longer works with the upgraded modem. I did not ask how to set up a Linksys wireless router. Obviously we have done that once before.

Ok, what you need to do, is set up the VPN all again, when you installed the new unit, it was set for factory default, this knows nothing about your VPN. So you need to have this all setup again, using the old settings as before, but setup in the new unit.
Below are the manuals for your HN9000. I also recomend you obtain your Linksys Router manual as well, and simply follow the instructions to setup another VPN, using all the old settings, in the new units.
These should be no problem in the doing of this, it just requires setting it all up correctly again.

You need to contact your IT manager, and ask them for the VPN settings then input these into the Modem and router, this should then return functionality to your VPN.

After years of dial up, I've acquired a HughesNet

According to the manual, you can purchase any wireless router (manual calls the router "air base")

I would advise a D-link or a Linksys router.

My internet provider is hughesnet. the hn7000s modem i conneted to my desktop. i had the geek squad come out about a year ago and connect a d-link wbr-1310 router up so i could have wireless access to my...

You need to make the change on the wbr-1310 router by setting a WPA2 passphrase. Once complete you will then need to go to your machines and reconnect to the nextwork. During this process it will ask you for the passphrase you set.

Here is the instruction manual you can use to configure your router:

HN9000 won't pass remote services

On the Router check if you have UPnP enabled, if yes then Disabel it that should fix the NAT issue and then you need to open the port number 1723,3389. Once these ports are opened then you will be able to access it on the VPN and Remote Desktop Provided you have a WAN IP Address from your ISP. also check the Firmware of the router if its updated or not.

I am hooked to hughes high speed when go on line and go to modern warfare 2 and join the game my man wants freeze up for about split second all through the game it takes about 4 seconds to even to reload .

Hughesnet isn't the greatest for attempting to play online. Even though it is better than dial up, it isn't a consistent speed, and you will run into lag and timeout issues along with the occasional freeze.

My connection to hughesnet is interrupted and jumps back a forth from on to off

First

Make sure there is no interruption in the line of sight.

If you are using any kind of a router then bypass it and try and go online.

Make sure all the cables are snugged in properly at the back of the modem as well as at the back of the Computer.

The weather could be another reason for the interrupted connection.

Make sure you are not using any VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection,i.e.,if you access any computer from your computer.

Secondly

Lastly do this open up a browser page (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox atc.) and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar on top and hit enter. You will view the Hughesnet System control center page.If not go to Lastly

Click on the Small Man Icon next to "what do these control means?" option. You will be redirected to the advanced configuration and the statistics page.

On the left panel you will see "Diagnostics"-- "Hourly" after clicking on hourly make sure there are no Red X specially against "cabling antenna pointing or uplink or downlink. If you don't see the RedX mark call the Hughesnet Customer care...otherwise

Lastly

I am sorry about this but it's time for you to upgrade because even the Hughesnet Technical Support will not provide you with any support as the modem that you are using right now is way too old and is not available in the market anymore otherwise you could get it replaced.

Please contact the sales department on 888-667-5544 or visit this link Hughesnet Sales

Good Luck.

Connecting D-Link DI-634M to HughesNet HN9000

I hate it when ISPs give you devices that dictate how your network has to be setup. They should just give you a modem which give a public IP to whatever connects to it.

For this to work you have to connect the cable from the hughes box to your router on one of the four regular jacks on the back NOT the internet/wan jack you would normally use.

Set the IP of the Dlink to 192.168.0.254
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default GW 192.168.0.1

This SHOULD allow the router to act like a switch. I have a linksys that has an option to make it function as an access point , which is what you need for this modem, but I dont see any option for the d link you have to do that.

Hughes have a knowledgebase which may be of some use to you.
