SOURCE: I changed the battery on bathroom scale Salter 987

I had the same problem with my Salter 987 scale. Pull the battery out for about 10 seconds and put it back in. Then push the scale once so it turns on. After the blinking stops, push it once more. The scale will now zero itself. After the scale has zero'd itself it may turn off after a brief moment. It's now ready to use normally. If you're standing on the scale when it's trying to calibrate to zero, it will assume your weight is zero. Don't stand on the scale after replacing the battery untill you first complete the steps listed above.

'out 2' error message shows on a brand new Salter Disc Electronic scale.

Below is a solution for the "Out2" error on the Salter scales.

I have a Salter Model 1400. It was dropped and started to display the "out2" error on the LCD display. I looked for solutions on-line but could not find anything which showed a solution. With no solution in hand I figured I would at least try to find out if my scale was salvageable. I removed the screws, there are two below the 9V battery, two under the footpads, two under the "model sticker", and two larger screws holding the scale plate to the base. After all the screws are successsfull removed, the case of the scale comes apart easily. I started looking at the small circuit board and looked for damage, and also tried several things, turned on and off the unit while it was apart but still saw the "out2" error. I then removed the circuit board, there are many screws holding it down. Looking at the LCD display, I noticed that there must be proper contact between the LCD display and the copper contacts on the circuit board, or nothing is displayed. Perhaps, "out2" is an indication that it can not display "out" anything because after it was dropped the LCD display moved enough that it no longer aligned with the contacts on the circuit board. I noticed that there is quite a bit of "play" or area of movement around the LCD display and the case. There were no cracks or damage so I assume that the loose LCD display is common even with a scale that was not dropped. I was able to align the LCD display, by moving it several times and realized that after pressing the ON button, I no longer saw the out2 error. So I decided to put something in between the LCD display and the case so that the LCD display would not move and therefore would align. It took some playing around, but I eventually took a very small piece of papertowl, about the size of my thumbnail and rolled it up and placed it between the LCD display so it made the LCD display snug and would no longer move around. I screwed on the circuit board, and voila, no more out2 error! It started working perfectly.

I have the Salter Scales model 2040, it is currently sent to oz, do you know how to change to grams as there is only 1 button. thanks

Hi,
I just had a play with mine as I wanted to change the weight mode too.
The solution is this:
While the machine is OFF, press and hold the button for about 5-10 seconds.
The display will go from 8888 to show the weight measurement (lb oz) at the top of the display.
Press the button to select the weight you want.
You should be able to continue with your baking :o)
Hope this helps

Salter 9001 bathroom scale stopped working

Hi Pete. I don't keep receipts either : ^ )
No that I am done commeserating, try this. Remove the batteries. Use the eraser end of a common pencil to scrub and clean the battery contacts inside the battery compartment. Also pull the contacts a little closer to the surface if you can. Then reinstall the batteries and you may be up and running.
Please rate my answer as verey helpful thanks. Joe

Err 1 message on Taylor Lithium Elec Scale model 7346

This is a reply I received from Taylor customer support. I have followed this procedure enough times to wear out the original battery and still get the Err 1 message. You may have better luck.

Thank you for your e-mail. The reboot below may clear the error from
your scale. You may need to do this several times to completely reboot
the system. Please let us know if you have any questions or continue to
display the Error.

1. Remove the battery from the scale
2. Set the scale on the floor without the battery in place.
3. Stand on the scale for 10 seconds (still without the battery)
4. Carefully replace the battery without turning the scale on.
5. Using only one foot, tap the scale or apply just enough pressure to
turn on the display. (It should show dashes or zero's) IMMEDIATELY
REMOVE YOUR FOOT.
6. Let the scale turn off
7. Step on the scale for a weight reading
