Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast.Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php It's major symptoms are clicking,electrical sounds,shuts off and on and get the lamp indicator. Powers off red light starts blinking

Hi,If you hear continueous clicking most likely is t an issue with the ballast which is the board that powers the lamp.But if you dont hear it often and tv is between 1-2 yrs most likely it's time to replace the lamp.

Not too sure about the thumping, possibly the cabinet expanding and/or contracting with heat, the lack of and weather change. But the scratching sound could very well be the HV discharge. So, not being able to hear it myself, I would suspect that yes it's probably normal.
