I have IBM P3 and i want to change win xp but its not booting pliz help me and it doen't give me option of booting

Turn the computer on. Keep your eyes glued to the bottom of the monitor screen. This usually comes by fast, so keep your eyes peeled.

When the computer manufacturer logo screen comes up, look for the -> enter CMOS Setup, or enter BIOS Setup, <- key to press.

Write it down.
If Windows loads on your computer, allow it to load, and run for a few minutes.
Turn the computer off normally.
WAIT 20 seconds, or so; then turn the computer back on.

AS SOON AS you press the Power On button, start tapping on the enter BIOS Setup key. (Or enter CMOS key)
Tap in 2 second intervals.

If you hear beeps ignore them. They are Stuck Key Error Code beeps, and it is you that is doing it.

Once you get into BIOS. look for Boot Options.
In Boot Options set the first boot device to CDROM.

REMEMBER, you have to Save Changes, or it will be like you have done nothing at all.

if you want to restore the computer to the factory settings.
restart the comptuer. immediately hold down the CONTROL key and start tapping F11 key.
Note : all of the data and software would be lost. Your computer will be restored to factory settings like a newly brought system.
IF this does work then go to bios, and make cd rom as the first boot devices, hit f10. now, hit "escape" once and select, "save" and hit enter.
Now, comptuer will be restarted. Now,start tapping space bar, It will boot from the disk.
else restart the computer and again start tapping spacebar at the startup.

hi,is your keyboard working at the bios try tapping F2 or del whatever the initial screen say to enter setup and see if your keyboard works there, this can happen if you are able to see the hp logo at start if you are not able to see the hp logo take out the keyboard and start the system see if you are able to see the hp logo and go beyond, if so first try to reseat the keyboard cable at the back of the system tower and then try and if it still doesn't work try by replacing the keyboard.

and if you are able to see the hp logo at start then start tapping the F8 key and it will send you to a menu where it will give you the option of safe mode, select safe mode and press enter and see if your keyboard works here, if it does work here
then what we can do is restore your system to a back date when your keyboard was working fine, doing a system restore will mean that the new installed programs and the configuration done will be lodt beyond the restore to date

if you are formatting your computer for the first time and if you bought your computer after 2005 then just press <Ctrl> + <F11> keys right at the dell logo on startup, you will boot to dell PC restore. This will restore your computer back to the factory settings including WinXP, all the drivers and softwares.

If you bought your computer before oct 2005: then follow these steps.

1) start you computer and at the dell splash logo tap <Del> key to enter setup. (restart and retry till you see entering setup)
2) select Boot from the tabs above using arrow keys.
3) select boot device priority press <ENTER>.
4) select ATAPI CDROM, <ENTER>.
5). insert WIN XP CD in the top drive of the computer and press <F10> select yes.(this will restart your computer).
6) after reboot you will see " press any key to boot from CD" press any key within 5 sec on this message.
7) Press <ENTER> to install
8) Press <F8> on next screen
9) Press <ESC> on next screen(Options may vary on this screen , read instructions).
10) select partition using arrow keys press <ENTER>
11) select NTFS/NTFS quick, anyone. and press F on the next screen...

this wil start WIn XP set up and concludes the formatting of the HDD with Win XP CD.

Win xp prof. again &again re starting problum

if the system was able to enter the desktop and restarts...once possible cause is a virus...scan the pc via safemode or reinstall windows.

but if it didn't enter the OS desktop...cause might be the boot loader or MBR is damage..

worth a try:

Run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. At the command prompt, type this commands one at a time.

FIXMBR C:
FIXBOOT C:
COPY [CDDRIVE]:\I386\NTLDR C:\
COPY [CDDRIVE]:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
BOOTCFG /rebuild

6. To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
