F2 will get you into the bios to change the boot order but I doubt that is the issue as XP starts so the bios is OK..

Windows starts, apears the logo windows xp,then the screen turns black and stays like that, nothings happen

You can try changing your bios setting with the help of a professional.

The other option is to reinstall windows XP.

If this dosent work then you can post again with the updates and we can suggest other solutions.

How do i reset my password on my hp mini 110. someone changed it and we can't get back in

assuming you have xp and there's no admin password try the following:

1. turn off your laptop
2. restart your laptop and before win xp logo comes on press f8 several times until you get into a black screen with the advance start up options, if you see the xp logo, restart your computer and try again.
3. select with the arrow safe mode and press enter to start your computer in safe mode.
4. before you get into windows will be prompted to select an account, if you had an account, should see your account and an administrator account. select the administrator account to log in.
5. Once in windows under the administrator account proceed to reset your password as follows:.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
  3. On the Users tab, click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for, and then click Reset Password.
  4. Type a new password in the New password box, and then type the password again in the Confirm new password box, and then click OK.
  5. Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows XP again.
I hope that helps!

Hello, I have a problem with my HP Pavillion dv2000; when I start up inmediatly appears a window asking for password, and this window don't let windows xp start, what can I do for begin to work win my...

Does this password request come up before the Windows XP logo with the scrolling dots appears? If so, you have a setup, or BIOS, password. Whoever put it there needs to remove it. This password cannot be broken. You MIGHT be able to erase it, but you have to unplug the computer, trmove the main battery, and find and remove the BIOS button battery, and leave it that way for an hour or so, then put everything back. If it worked, no more password.

Unable to keyin password while XP login page display

If I understand correctly, Yvonne - your keyboard just beeps when you key in the password? And then you are not passing this point -

It may be the keyboard itself - the beeping may be a stuck key.

Try to boot your system into SafeMode. Turn the system on and as soon as you see the Logo, begin tapping the f8 key. You should be given an option of how to boot your system. Select SafeMode. The next screen is the operating system (Win XP) press enter. The next screen will list all the accounts - plus the Administrator which is the one that you'll want to select. If you didn't add an administrator password during the last installation of Windows, you should just be ablr to press enter and move on to the desktop,

Remember - the Administrator can do anything -

Let me know how you make out, but please note: There's a limit as to what can be done with password workarounds due to privacy and the liability factor.

Steven,

it could be a heat realted, can you get to the cpu cooler? most laptops i have worked on this is accessible by lifting the keyboard.

Give it a blow out with a compressed air can and see if that works, if not try lifting the cpu cooler and cleaning off old thermal paste and reapplying new.

Regards

Nick

My admin account wont work

Did you downloaded that on a virus-free website like www.download.com? And one more thing, when you mean "I can't use my admin account", do you mean windows is telling you that the password you enter is wrong? If that's the case try booting into safe mode (by pressing F8 before the XP Logo). By default, XP have a built-in "Administrator" account name & the password is blank. You should be able to login with that & try to change your password on your account on the user accounts setting on control panel.

Hope this helps.
