Question about HP Pavilion zd7000 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a HP zd7000a laptop that working find, the issue is the laptop won't turn off completely. the main power LED turn off but the volume and HHD stay on. The CPU power also stay on because it continue to generate heat but since the main power is off, there no way for the cooling fans to turn on. I disconnect all I/O's from the Mobo and reflashed the Bios still same issue. My guess is one of power relay contact got fussed together. Do anyone have a copy of the Mobo schematic to identify the defective component.

This is a known issue with this particular model of laptop. The same issue can also cause the whole thing to drop power if you have a battery in and try to pick it up. Even further, it can give you hair-tearing problems with pretty much every ACPI function, though the OS on it seems to make a some difference (favoring linux) though this may be circumstantial. Best bet is to simulate a power failure by holding the power button with the battery out.

Need to fix G62 computer:will not start

"Worked in the past, doesn't work now", That's sort of the definition of a failure. Has the laptop been dropped? What does the laptop when you try to start? Do you see LED"s blink? Fan spins? HHD LED blink? Battery light on? Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord? Did you try a cord/charger with the EXACT same power spec? Test the DC volts at the laptop cord plug with a multimeter. Reseat the Memory mods. May be a HDD failure? Post results

Hp dv7 4065dx - power is reaching the computer (can tell by the led at the power outlet, but zero response to pressing the power button. Suggestions?

POWER SUPPLY & BATTERY PROBLEM
If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Most of these problems are associated with an I.C. on the board that governs the HHD. Unfortunately, the chip gets pitted (overheats) on the GaAs and is ruined. The green light (LED) on the HHD will turn on as it is getting power but the main chip that controls the HHD no longer works thus rendering the HHD inoperative.

Bottom line, get a new external drive. Should you get the same model or something similar to what type of electronic hardware you have, you can remove the new HHD and put your old HHD in its place and you will see that all of your data is still intact.

Zd7000 mobo not powering up

I've found this particular issue to be common with the zd7000 and zd7000a (the 'a' model especially. For whatever reason, the battery tends not to make good contact no matter what you do, and if the motherboard sees you have one, it uses it. This would be fine, but if the battery loses contact, AC power doesn't come up fast enough.

Sadly, the only realistic solution for the lay-user is to place the computer on a flat, steady surface, preferably something that assists ventilation, and keeps the battery stable and as immobile as possible.. Once you stop thinking of it as a laptop and start thinking of it as a portable computer, it tends to make living with it much easier.
