If it is still under warranty and faulty, then send it back. It does not sound like a do it yourself task.

Kids ran magnet across screen

Magnets do not affect LCD screens.
If your screen is a CRT monitor then a magnet will cause this problem.
Try turning off the monitor and back on several times and the degaussing coils on the monitor may fix this problem. If the screen is still discolored then take your monitor to a TV repairer and they can degauss your monitor with a more powerful degaussing tool.

Screen has horizontal lines wont show anyhting

The easiest way to troubleshoot your problem is by connecting your laptop to an external monitor. WHether you have one at home, or need to take it to a friends or your place of work, start by attaching the cable to the monitor and you laptop. Then start your laptop up and hold down the fn key and press the F5 key and let go. This will trnasfer the video signal to the external monitor. If you can see the normal display on the external monitor that you would normally see on your laptop, you problem is only the LCD screen panel on your laptop and it would need to be replaced.

If the same horizontal lines appear on the external monitor, then your video/graphics ship on the motherboard has failed and you'll need to send the laptop in for repair or replacement of the motherboard to fix the problem. I send these advanced problem laptops to any of several repair vendors on eBay and have had excellent results. Simply go to eBay and in the search box type in Laptop Motherboard Repair. You will be sent to a site with many vendors there capable of doing your repair. If the prices seem to high for the relative current value of your laptop, it may be time to consider upgrading to a newer one.

Good Luck

Compaq presario 700 monitor off

Hi
Maybe, depending on the problem. Laptop monitor problems fall into three categories. 1. Screen electronics or lamp. 2. Inverter. 3. Laptop video chip. I've been repairing latops ever since they arrived on the market. First connect an external monitor to the laptop - this will show you whether or not the laptop motherboard is working correctly. If it is then you'll need to replace either the screen or the inverter. So as not to waste alot of money, at this point I would suugest going to a reputable repair person or check my website www.micromendllc.com

Monitor doesnt turn on

Hello

Please try an external monitor. This will tell you if the laptop circuitry or screen has gone bad. Either way it'll have to be sent to a repair company like mine or taken to a local service person.

HP dv9000 won't come out of black screen.

You could have a faulty video card, or a faulty inverter, (this supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp), or a faulty CCFL lamp.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a very dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

A line appears across my screen on my medion laptop

Perhaps your monitor is faulty. You should check it out at a repair store. Also, if you have a VGA connector for an external monitor, try with that. If the lines are gone, that means your monitor is faulty.

be sure to circle through possible screen.
use FN key + a key with a screen symbol on your keyboard (or check your doc) to switch from main screen to external monitor and back.
sometime some techies use external monitor for pc final test and forgot to restore configuration to laptop screen.
At restart XP is expecting the last used monitor and nothing shows on laptop screen.
try also connecting any external monitor to vga plug.
let me know if is fixing

Display dims

My HP laptop monitor would go very dark (sometimes still legible) and it did it infrequently. The problem got worse and I could temporarily fix it by flicking the monitor off botton (i.e. the thing that sticks out to turn the monitor off when you close it). Ultimately, I had to replace the inverter. It was simple (once I found how to take it apart online) to replace the inverter and it fixed the monitor problem. This is after a computer technition told me that I needed a new bulb or for a little more he could get me a new monitor. Maybe there are some good computer repair guys, but I am now leary of them.

No display

Hi SimonRankin,

Most laptops have an option to switch between using the laptop's LCD screen, or a plugged in display with a VGA cable (Video Graphics Array, that Blue trapezoid connector cable).

Most often, it's Function + F8, although this varies between manufacturers and models. It should say "LCD/CRT" or have a small picture of a laptop versus an square with rounded edges.

If that doesn't do it, chances are you've managed to actually damage the on-board video card. Or potentially something worse. Try to get the external monitor to work, if that doesn't do it, I would say it should be sent back to a service center for more repairs.

Hope that helps.
